Elizabeth Alice " Ali " MacGraw (born April 1, 1939) is an American actress, model, author and animal rights activist. She first got attention with her role in the 1969 film Goodbye, Columbus, where she won the Golden Globe Award for the Most Promising Newcomer. She achieved international fame in the 1970s Love Story, where she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Dramatic Drama Pictures. In 1972, MacGraw was selected as the world's top female star and honored with hand and foot ceremonies at Grauman's Chinese Theater after only three films. He went on to star in the popular action movie The Getaway <1972> and Convoy (1978) and romantic sports drama Players (1979), comedy Just Tell Me What You Want (1980), and the historic novel television miniseries The Winds of War (1983). In 1991, he published an autobiography, Moving Images .

MacGraw was born in Pound Ridge, New York, the daughter of the commercial artist Frances ( nÃÆ' Â © e Klein; 1901-1980) and Richard MacGraw. He has one brother, Dick, an artist. Her maternal grandmother came from Budapest, Hungary, from the Jewish heritage. MacGraw's mother chose not to reveal his ancestors to his father, instead of expressing his ignorance about it. "I think Daddy is fanatical," MacGraw said.

His mother is considered a "pioneer" as an artist, who has taught school in Paris before settling in Greenwich Village. Her parents married when her mother was 40 years old: "My beautiful father: a combination of Tyrone Power and a mystery, brilliant artist and brain that goes beyond the brain." She was born in New Jersey with her childhood spent in an orphanage. He ran out to sea when he was 16 and studied art in Munich. MacGraw added, "Dad is frightened and really angry, he never forgave his real parents for handing it over." As an adult, he constantly suppresses the anger he is developing against his parents. He describes his father as "violence".

MacGraw attended Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Careers

Initial career

Beginning in 1960, MacGraw spent six years working in Harper's Bazaar magazine as a photography assistant for fashion maven Diana Vreeland. She works in Vogue magazine as a fashion model, and as a photographer stylist. He also works as an interior decorator.

Movies and TV

MacGraw started his acting career in television commercials, including one for Polaroid Swinger cameras. MacGraw received critical notice in the 1969 film Goodbye, Columbus, but the real star came in 1970 when he starred in Ryan O'Neal on Love Story, one of the highest-grossing movies in US history. MacGraw was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for the show. Following Love Story , MacGraw is celebrated on the magazine's Time cover.

In 1972, after appearing in only three films, he had his footprints and autographs carved in Grauman's Chinese Theater. She later starred in Steve McQueen at The Getaway (1972), which is one of the top ten films of the year at the box office. After taking a five-year break from acting, in 1978 MacGraw again appeared at another box office hit, Convoy (1978), opposite Krisdayanti. He then appeared in the movies Players (1979) and Just Tell Me What You Want (1980), directed by Sidney Lumet.

In 1983, MacGraw starred in the highly successful television miniseries The Winds of War . In 1985, MacGraw joined the prime-time soap opera ABC Dynasty as Lady Ashley Mitchell, whom, she admitted in a 2011 interview, did it for money. She appeared in 14 episodes of the show before her character was killed in the famous Massavire Moldavian "clashhanger" episode in 1985.

Stage

MacGraw made his Broadway theater debut in New York City in 2006 as a dysfunctional matriarch in the Festen drama ( The Celebration ).

In 2016, MacGraw reunited with Love Story versus Ryan O'Neal in a staging of A.R. Gurney's play Love Letters .

Magazine introduction

In 1991, the magazine people voted for MacGraw as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" in the World.

In 2008, the magazine GQ enrolled in the edition of "Sexiest Woman 25 Women in Film Ever".

Yoga

After becoming a worshiper of Hatha Yoga in the early 50s, MacGraw produced a yoga video with American Yoga Master Erich Schiffmann, Ali MacGraw Yoga Mind and Body . This video is bestseller when released and still popular more than a decade later. The impact of the video is such that in June 2007, Vanity Fair magazine credits MacGraw by being one of the people responsible for the latest popularity in the United States.

Animal welfare

In July 2006, MacGraw filmed the public service announcement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), urging citizens to bring their pets with them in case of forest fires. In 2008, he wrote the introduction to Pawprints of Katrina by Cathy Scott writer and photography by Clay Myers on Best Friends Animal Society and the largest pet rescue in US history. An animal rights advocate throughout his life, he received the Human Education Award by the New Mexico Veterinary Protection for talking about animal issues.

Personal life

MacGraw has admitted having had an abortion in his early twenties, at the time the procedure was illegal. After college, he married Robin Hoen, a Harvard graduate banker, but they divorced after a year and a half.

On October 24, 1969, MacGraw married film producer Robert Evans; their son, Josh Evans, is an actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. They divorced in 1972 after he was involved with Steve McQueen at the The Getaway location. He married McQueen on August 31, 1973, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and divorced him in 1978.

MacGraw's autobiography, Moving Pictures reveals its struggle with alcohol and sex addiction. She was treated for the first at Betty Ford Center.

When her ex-husband, Evans, received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002, she accompanied him. Their grandson Jackson was born in December 2010 to Josh and his wife, singer Roxy Saint.

Since 1994 he lived in Tesuque, New Mexico, after "escaping from Malibu" when a house he rented burned down.
