Genevieve Nnaji (born May 3, 1979) is a Nigerian actress and singer. She won the African Film Academy Award for Best Actress in a Main Role in 2005, making her the first award-winning actress. In 2011, he was honored as a Member of the Federal Republic Order by the Nigerian government for his contribution to Nollywood.

Early life and education
Nnaji was born in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria but grew up in Lagos, the fourth of eight children and raised in a middle-class neighborhood. His father worked as an engineer and his mother as a nurse school teacher. He attended Methodist Girls College (Yaba, Lagos), before moving to the University of Lagos where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in creative arts. While at university, he started auditioning for acting work at Nollywood.

Careers
Nnaji started her acting career as a little actress in a popular television drama at that time Ripples at the age of 8. In 1998 at the age of 19 he was introduced into the growing Nigerian film industry with the movie "Most searched". Subsequent films include Last Party , Mark of the Beast and Ijele . In 2010 she starred in the award-winning film IjÃÆ' à ©: The Journey . She has starred in more than 80 Nollywood movies.
In 2009 Nnaji was one of the best paid actresses in Nollywood. Due to his contribution to the Nigerian film industry, he became the first actress to be awarded Best Actress at the 2001 City Peoples Awards, an awards ceremony that previously only acknowledged politicians and business conglomerates. She was also the first actress to be awarded Best Actress by Nigeria's Censorship Council in 2003. In 2009, she was named as Julia Roberts of Africa by Oprah Winfrey.
In 2004 Nnaji signed a recording contract with Record EKB , Ghana record label, and released her debut album One Logologo Line , a mixture of R & B, Hip-Hop and urban music.
In November 2015, Nnaji produced her first film titled Road to Yesterday , then won Best Overall-West Africa Films at Choice Choice 2016 Africa Magic Viewers.
Modeling
Nnaji has been featured in several advertisements, some of which include Pronto and Omo detergent drinks. In 2004 he became the "Lux Faces" in Nigeria in a very lucrative sponsorship deal. In 2008 Nnaji launched a clothing line, "St. Genevieve", which donated the proceeds to charity. In May 2010 Nnaji was appointed "Face of MUD" officially in Nigeria.

Nnaji has received several awards and nominations for his work, including this year's Best Actress Award at the 2001 City People's Prize and the Best Role of Leading Actress Award at the Africa Film Academy Awards 2005.
