John Anthony White (nÃÆ' à © Gillis , born July 9, 1975) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor. He is known as vocalist and guitarist of the duo The White Stripes. He was also successful in other bands and as a solo artist.
On April 24, 2012, White released his debut solo album, Blunderbuss . Her second studio album, Lazaretto , was released on June 10, 2014. Both received extensive commercial praise and criticism. Her third studio album, Boarding House Reach , was released on March 23, 2018.
After basking in some of Detroit's underground bands as a drummer, White founded The White Stripes with Detroit Meg White's original colleagues in 1997. Their breakthrough album in 2001, White Blood Cells , brought international fame with hit single and accompanying the music video "Falling in Love with Girl". This recognition provides White's opportunity to collaborate with famous artists, including Loretta Lynn and Bob Dylan. In 2006, White founded The Raconteurs with Brendan Benson, and in 2009 founded The Dead Weather with Alison Mosshart of The Kills.
White has enjoyed consistent critical and popular success and is widely credited as one of the major artists in the garage rock revival of the 2000s. He has won twelve Grammy Awards, and his three solo albums have reached number one on the Billboard charts. Rolling Stone rated it 70th in the 2010 "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list. The list of David Fricke in 2011 placed him at number 17. White has a collection of guitars and other instruments and has a preference for vintage items that often have connections to famous blues artists. He is a supporter of vocals for analog technology and recording techniques. White is also a board member of the National Recording Preservation Foundation of the National Library. The record label and the Third Man Records studio released vinyl recordings of his own and other artists and local schoolchildren. Lazaretto holds the first week's vinyl sales record since 1991.
White respects his privacy and has been known to create heresy about his personal life. She and Meg White were married in 1996, but divorced in 2000 before the peak of the band's fame. They then start calling themselves siblings. She later married model and singer Karen Elson from 2005 to 2013; they have sons and daughters. He currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

John Anthony Gillis was born in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of ten children - and seventh son - of Teresa (nÃÆ'à © e Bandyk) and Gorman M. Gillis. His mother's family is Polish, while his father is Scottish-Canadian. He was raised a Catholic, and his father and mother both worked for the Detroit Archdiocese as a Building Maintenance Inspector and secretary at the cardinal's office, respectively. Gillis became an altar boy, who gave her an unknown role in the 1987 film The Rosary Murders, filmed primarily in Holy Redeemer parish in southwest Detroit. He studied at Cass Technical High School in Detroit.
The influence of Gillis's early music was his older brother, and he learned to play the instruments they left behind; he started playing drums in first grade after finding a kit in the attic. As a child, he is a fan of classical music, but in elementary school, he starts listening to Doors, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. As a "levelheaded teenager" with braces, "Gillis began listening to the blues and 1960s rocks that would have influenced him on The White Stripes, with Son House and Blind Willie McTell being among his favorite blues guitarists. He has said in interviews that Son House "Grinnin 'in Your Face" is his all-time favorite song.As a drummer, his heroes include Gene Krupa, Stewart Copeland, and Crow Smith of the Flat Duo Jets.
In 2005, at 60 Minutes , he told Mike Wallace that his life could change differently. "I was accepted at a seminary in Wisconsin, and I would be a priest, but at the last second I thought, 'I'm going to public school.' I just got a new amplifier in my room, and I do not think I was allowed to take it with me. "Instead, he was accepted into the business-known Cass Technical High School, and played drums and trombones in the band. At the age of 15, he started a three-year apprenticeship with a family friend, Brian Muldoon. He praised Muldoon by exposing it to punk music as they worked together at the store. Muldoon guided his young pupil to form a band: "He's playing drums", thought Gillis. "Well, I think I'll play guitar then." Both recorded an album, Makers of High Grade Suites, as Plumbers.
As a senior in high school, she meets Megan White at the Memphis Smoke restaurant where she works, and they often visit coffee shops, local music venues, and record stores in the area. After the courtship, they married on September 21, 1996. In the reversal of tradition, he took his last name.
After completing his internship, he started his own one-man business, Third Man Upholstery. The business slogan is "Your Furniture's Not Dead" and yellow and black color schemes - including yellow van, yellow-black uniform, and yellow clipboard. Although Third Man Upholstery never lacked business, he claimed it was unprofitable because of his satisfaction about money and his unprofessional business practices, including making bills in crayons and writing poetry inside furniture.

Careers
White Line
At 19 years old, Jack has landed his first professional show as a drummer for the Detroit Goober band & Peas, and was still in that position when the band broke up in 1996. It was in this band that he learned about touring and performing on stage. After the band split, he settled down to work as a day coating while moonlighting in local bands, as well as performing solo shows. Although a bartender trades, Meg began learning to play drums in 1997 and, according to Jack, "When he started playing drums with me, just with pleasure, it was liberating and refreshing." The couple became a band, calling themselves The White Stripes, and two months later performing their first show at Gold Dollar in Detroit.
Despite being married, Jack and Meg openly present themselves as siblings, and stick with colored themes, dressed only in red, white, and black. They started their career as part of the underground underground music scene in Michigan. They play together and open for more established local bands such as Bantam Rooster, Dirtbombs, Two-Star Tabernacle, Rocket 455, and Hentchmen. In 1998, White Stripes signed for Italy Records - a small, independent Detroit based punk garage label - by Dave Buick. The band released their debut album in 1999, and a year later the album was followed up by the cult classic, De Stijl . The album finally reached number 38 on Billboard ' s Independent Album Album.
In 2001, the band released White Blood Cell . This rock-stripped rock sound was critically acclaimed in the US and beyond, making The White Stripes one of the most famous bands in 2002, and the leading figure in the garage band revival at the time. John Peel, an influential DJ and early supporter of the band in England, said that they are the most interesting thing he has heard since Jimi Hendrix. The New York Times said of White, "under an artistic facade there is one of the most astute original rockers to come since Kurt Cobain." The album was acted upon in 2003 by the commercially successful and highly successful Elephant . Critics at Allmusic wrote that the album "sounds more angry, paranoid and mesmerizing than its predecessor... darker and harder than White Blood Cell ." The album's first single, "Seven Nation Army", became the band's signature song, reaching number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for three weeks, winning the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song, and became an international sports and protest song. The band's fifth album, Get ihind Me Satan, was recorded at White's own home and marked the band's changing direction, with piano-driven melodies and experiments with marimba and rhythm-based guitar playing by White.
The band's sixth album, Icky Thump , was released in 2007, and unlike the previous lo-fi album, the album was recorded in Nashville at Blackbird Studio. The album is considered a return to blues and rock-rock sounds before. It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, and entered the UK Albums Charts at number one, selling over 300,000 vinyl copies in the UK alone. From his excitement to vinyl, White explained, "We can not lose the feeling of breaking new records and seeing great works of art and having something you can hold in your hands." In support of the album, they launched a tour of Canada, where they played performances in every province and region of the country. However, later that year, the band announced the cancellation of 18 tour dates due to Meg's struggle with acute anxiety. A few days later, the duo canceled the rest of the year of their 2007 UK tour as well.
White worked with other artists in the meantime, but revealed the band's plans to release a seventh album in the summer of 2009. On February 20, 2009 - and on the last episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien - the band made a live performance their first after the tour cancellation, and a documentary about their Canadian tour - titled The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights - debuted later that year at the Toronto International Film Festival. However, almost two years passed without a new release, and on February 2, 2011, the band reported on their official website that they disbanded. White stressed that it was not because of health problems or artistic differences, "but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band."
The Raconteurs
In 2005, in collaboration with Brendan Benson - a Michigan fellow who had worked with White before - they composed a song called "Steady, as She Goes." It inspired them to create a complete band, and they invited Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler from Greenhornes to join them in what would become The Raconteurs. The musicians meet at Benson's home studio in Detroit and, for the rest of the year, they record when time is allowed. The result was the band's debut album, Broken Boy Soldiers . Reached the Big Ten charts in the United States and Britain, nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2006 Grammy Awards. The main single, "Steady, As She Goes" was nominated for Best Rock Performance by Duo or Group with Vocal. The Raconteurs embarked on a tour to support the album, including eight dates as an opening for Bob Dylan. The group's second album, Consolers of the Lonely , and their first single, "Salute Your Solution", were released simultaneously in 2008. The album reached number seven on the Billboard 200 chart, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
The Dead Weather
While on tour to promote Consolers of the Lonely , White develops bronchitis and often loses his voice. Alison Mosshart, frontwoman for The Kills (who toured with Raconteurs at the time) often filled in as his replacement. The beauty between the two artists led them to collaborate, and in early 2009, White formed a new group called Dead Weather. Mosshart sings, White plays drums and shares vocal duties, Jack Lawrence of Raconteurs playing bass, and keyboardist and guitarist Queens of the Stone Age, Dean Fertita completes four parts.
The group debuted several new songs on March 11, 2009 in Nashville from their debut album Horehound . Out on July 13, 2009 in Europe and July 14, 2009 in North America on the White Third Man Records label. In October 2009, Mosshart confirmed that the second album was "half done," and the first single, "Die by the Drop", was released on March 30, 2010. The new album (again on the Third Man Records label) was titled Sea of âââ Cowards and was released on May 7 that year in Ireland, on May 10 in the United Kingdom, and on May 11 in the US.
The announcement of their third album, Dodge & amp; Burn , made in July 2015 for worldwide release in September by Third Man Records. Together with four previously released songs, remixes and remasteres, the album features eight new songs.
Solo Career
White's success and critical success with The White Stripes opened the door for him to collaborate as a solo artist with other musicians. He has joined other artists in their recordings, as well as artists invited to appear on his projects. He also works as a producer for various artists, often through his label, Third Man Records.
Rumors began to circulate in 2003 that White had collaborated with Electric Six for their song "Danger of High Voltage." He and Six Electric both denied this, and vocal work was officially credited to John S O'Leary. In subsequent interviews with Chris Handyside, however, Dick Valentine and Corey Martin (members of Six Electrical bands) acknowledged White's involvement and confirmed that he did not accept payment.
White worked with Loretta Lynn on her 2004 album Van Lear Rose, which she produced and played. The album was a critical and commercial success. In 2008, White collaborated with Alicia Keys on the song "Another Way to Die", the theme song for the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. In 2009, Jack White was featured on It's The Might Get Loud, a movie where he, Jimmy Page, and The Edge came together to discuss electric guitar and play methods of each different artist. White's first solo single, "Fly Farm Blues," was written and recorded in 10 minutes during the August film-making. The single is sold as a 7-inch black recording of Third Man Records and as a single digital available via iTunes on August 11, 2010. In November 2010, producer Danger Mouse announced that White - along with Norah Jones - had been recruited for his collaboration with Daniele Luppi titled Rome . White provides vocals for three songs on the album: "The Rose with the Broken Neck," "Two Against One," and "The World." White finished and performed the song "You Know That I Know", and it was featured on The Lost Notebook of Hank Williams, released on October 4, 2011. That same year, he produced and played on Wanda Jackson's Album The Party Is not Over . To his delight, his studio also released an album on 7-inch vinyl. White also appears on AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered , covering U2's "Love Is Blindness". White has worked with other artists as well, including Beck, Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, and Bob Dylan.
On January 30, 2012, White released "Love Interruption" as the first single from his debut, his self-produced solo album, Blunderbuss, which was released on April 24, 2012. The album finally debuted at number one. on the Billboard 200 chart, and to support the album, he appeared on Saturday Night Live as a music guest and played at selected festivals during the summer of 2012, including the Firefly Music Festival, Radio 1's Hackney Weekend, Sasquatch! Music Festival, Fuji Rock Festival in Japan (one of the biggest festivals in the world), and Rock Werchter in Belgium. Later that year, he headed the Austin City Limits Music Festival. During his tour for the album, White used two live bands, which he switched at random. The first, called The Peacocks, are all female and consist of Ruby Amanfu, Carla Azar, Lillie Mae Rische, Maggie Bjorklund, Brooke Wagoner, and bassist back and forth Bryn Davies and Catherine Popper. The others, The Buzzards, are all men and consist of Daru Jones, Dominic Davis, Kaplin Fats, Ikey Owens, and Cory Younts. White says keeping the two bands too expensive, and leaving the exercise at the end of the tour. Blunderbuss was finally nominated for several Grammys, including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song for "Freedom at 21".
On April 1, 2014, White announced his second solo album, Lazaretto , inspired by the drama and poetry he wrote as a teenager. The album was released on June 10, 2014 along with the first single from the album, "High Ball Stepper". The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and, in personal victory for White, broke the record for the biggest selling week for vinyl albums since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. The album was widely praised among critics, and was nominated for three Grammys Awards: Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance (for the song "Lazaretto"). During the supporting tour, he performed his longest running career of July 30, 2014 at the Detroit Masonic Temple, and later emerged as one of the leading leaders at the Coachella Festival for two weekends in April 2015. On April 14, 2015, White announced that the festival would be the last electric set, followed by an acoustic performances in each of the five US states he has not done before he will take a long break from the live show. However, she appeared on the premiere episode of A Prairie Home Companion with new host Chris Thile, on October 15, 2016, to support the compilation album "Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016." She co-wrote the song "Do not Hurt Yourself" with Beyoncà © à © on her album Lemonade , and accompanied her on vocals.
On December 12, 2017, White released a 4 minute video entitled "Portion and Portion of My House Dormitory", featuring a brief sound of new music interspersed with white sounds. In January 2018 White released two songs entitled "Connected by Love" and "Respect Commander", both taken from his third solo album, Boarding House Reach , released on March 23, 2018. Like the two previous albums, it landed at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. In the promotion of his album, White appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and on Saturday Night Live as a music guest, where he played "Over and Over and Over" and "Connected by Love".
Acting
White also has a small acting career. She appeared in the 2003 film, Cold Mountain, as a Georgian character and performed five songs for the Cold Mountain soundtrack: "Sittin 'on Top of the World", "Wayfaring Stranger" , "Never Far Away", "Christmas Time Soon Will Be Over" and "Great High Mountain." Jim Jarmusch's 2003 Coffee and Cigarettes show Jack and Meg in the segment "Jack Shows Meg His Tesla Coil. " She also plays Elvis Presley in the 2007 Walk Walker. In 2016, he appeared as a special guest on the first season of The Muppets, and sang "You Are the Sunshine of My Life", which he then released on vinyl 7. "In June 2017, White appeared in the award-winning documentary The American Epic Sessions, recorded on the first electric sound recording system from 1920. His appearance was "Matrimonial Intention", "Mama's Angel Child", "2 Fingers Whiskey (with Elton John) and "On the Road Again" and "One Mic" (with Nas) appear on Music from The American Epic Sessions: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. He is a film executive producer.
Third Man Record
White founded Third Man Records in 2001. However, just after he moved to Nashville, White bought space in 2009 to place his label. He explained, "For a long time I did not want to have my own studio equipment, especially because with the White Line I wanted to have a narrowing into the studio and have 10 days or two weeks to finish the album, and use whatever equipment happens to be on After 10 to 15 years of recording like that I feel that it is time for me to have my own place to produce music, and have what I want there: the tape machine, the right microphone, the exact amplifier I like,. "Using the slogan" Your Turntable's Not Dead, "the Third Man also presses the phonograph record, for the artists on the label, for White's own musical endeavor, and for third parties to rent.
In March 2015, Third Man joins the launch of TIDAL, a music streaming service purchased and purchased by Jay-Z with other major music artists. Later that year, White partnered with watch manufacturer Shinola to open a retail location in Detroit.

Instruments and supplies
White has many instruments and, historically, tends to use certain ones for certain projects or in certain settings. He has a preference for classical guitars, many of which are associated with influential blues artists. Most of the equipment is specially made, for technical and aesthetic reasons.
During his career with The White Stripes, White mainly uses three guitars, though he also uses the others. Red, "JB Hutto," Airline guitar is a 1964 antique model originally distributed by the Montgomery Ward department store. Although used by some artists, White's attachment to the instrument increased his popularity to the point that Eastwood Guitars began producing modified replicas around 2000. The 1950s era Kay Hollowbody was a gift from his brother in return for help. It is the same electric guitar brand made popular by Howlin Wolf, and White is best known for using it on "Seven Nation Army." He started using 1915 Gibson L-1 acoustics (often called Robert Johnson's model) on the album Icky Thump; in an interview for Gibson, he called the instrument his favorite. He also uses three-pickup Airline Town & amp; Country (later featured in "Steady As She Goes" music video), a Rocket Harmony, 1970s Crestwood Astral II era, and what would be the first of three dedicated Gretsch Rancher Falcon acoustic guitars. While with Lines, any equipment that does not match their red/black/white color scheme is painted red.
While Raconteurs is still in development, White commissioned Randy Parsons luthier to create what is called a White Triple Jet - a custom guitar arranged after the Duo Jet double-cutaway guitar. Parsons first product was painted in copper color, but he decided to create a second version with a completely copper body, which White began to use instead. For the first tour of Raconteurs, White also plays Gretsch Anniversary Jr. with vibrato Bigsby vibrato and three Filtertron pickup. He then added Gretsch Anniversary Jr. with two cutaways, a lever-activated mute system, a retractable and retractable microphone, and light-activated theremin next to Bigsby. White has dubbed this one as "Green Machine", and it's featured in It Might Get Loud . He occasionally plays the Gibson J-160E, Gretsch Duo Jet in Cadillac Green, and second Gretsch Rancher acoustic guitar. For Raconteurs' 2008 tour, he has an Analog Man plate all his pedals in copper.
Since then he earned another Gretsch, Billy Gibbons/Bo Diddley's special signature Gretsch Jupiter Thunderbird with a double gold pickguard (as seen in the music video for "Another Way to Die"). White found White Penguin G6134 in 1957 Gretsch in 2007 while touring in Texas - the same one he used in the music video for "Icky Thump" - which eventually matched the Dead Weather color scheme. He has also used a black lefty since the Dead Weather album of Sea of ââCowards came out. He is also known to play Fender Telecasters, featuring one in the music video for Loretta Lynn "Portland, Oregon."
White has three Gretsch Rancher Falcons because he says that the bass tone makes it his favorite acoustics to be played live. They are collectively referred to as "girlfriends," as each has a classic movie star image in the back. Claudette Colbert is the brown hair she uses with the Stripes, Rita Hayworth is the redhead she gets with Raconteurs, and Veronica Lake is the blonde she added in 2010 while with Dead Weather.
Recently White has played the EVH Wolfgang guitar, which is a typical model of Eddie Van Halen.
White uses many effects to create his live sound, especially the DigiTech Whammy WH-4 to create fast modulation in the pitch he uses in his solo. White also produced a "fake" bass tone by playing Kay Hollowbody and JB Hutto Montgomery Airline through Whammy IV set to an octave down for a very thick, low, rumbling sound, which he used primarily on the song "Seven Nation" Soldiers. also used MXR Micro Amp and Custom Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Distortion/Sustainer In 2005, for the single "Blue Orchid," White used the Electro-Harmonix Polyphonic Octave Generator (POG), which allowed it to mix some octave effects into one along with the signal He installed this setting to the 1970s Fender Twin Reverb "Silverface" and two 100-Watt Sears Silvertone 1485 6à ¢ â,¬â "¢ 10 amplifiers. He also used the Fender Twin Reverb 1960s" Blackface ".
Sometimes, White also plays other instruments, such as the mandibin Black Gibson F-4 ("Little Ghost"), the piano (in most of the songs from Get Behind Me Satan , and various others), and the piano electrically on tracks like "The Air Near My Fingers" and "I'm Finding it Harder to be a Gentleman". White also plays percussion instruments like marimba (as in "The Nurse"), drums and tambourine. For the 2007 White Stripes tour, he played the Hammond A-100 organ with a touch of custom with a speaker Leslie 3300, who then loaned out to Bob Dylan, and is currently in Third Man Studios. In the Broken Boy Soldiers album, he and Benson are credited with playing synth and album organ.
With Dead Weather, White plays a special Ludwig Classic Maple kit in Black Oyster Pearl. In particular, it includes a two-mesh drum, called White "the jazz canon." For the Blank Full Flash tour of 2009, White used the drum head with Three Brides of Dracula on the front, but in 2010, White used the new drum head, at the time of the release of the Sea of ââCowards >, which has a picture of The Third Man himself: Harry Lime tries to escape from a certain catch in the Viennese sewer. During the American tour of the 2010 tour, White replaced his drum head by displaying a picture of himself in a disguise that he wore on the cover of the Sea of ââCowards. The drum head is called Sam Kay by some fans, referring to the insert inside the 12 "LP.
Minimalist style
White has long been a supporter of analog equipment and related work methods. Beginning in fifth grade, he and his childhood friend, Dominic Suchyta, would listen to the recording in the White attic at the weekend and start recording cover songs on rolls of four old songs to roll up the recording machine. The White Stripes 'first album was mostly recorded in the attic of her parents' home. As their fame grows outside of Detroit, the Lines become famous for their innocence and disfigured style of play. In particular, White became famous for his vocal delivery of his nose and the explosive release of the guitar. In a review of the 2001 New York Times concert, Ann Powers said that, while White's game was "clever," he "created more challenges by playing an acoustic guitar with papers taped over the holes and less-than high quality solid power. "
His home studio in Nashville contains two rooms ("I want everyone close, focused, feel like we're together.") With two tools: the mixing console Neve, and two Studer A800 2-inch 8-track tape recorders.
In his introduction to the documentary, It Might Get Loud, White features his minimalist style by building a wooden guitar, three spikes, a glass Coke bottle, a guitar string, and a pickup. He ended the demonstration by saying, "Who says you need to buy a guitar?" In an episode of the 2012 show, Portlandia , White made a cameo in a sketch of a spoofing home fans vignette that prefers antique tape equipment.
Reception
White has enjoyed critical and popular success, and is widely credited as one of the key artists in the garage rock revival of the 2000s. Rolling Stone rated it 70th in the 2010 "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list. The list of David Fricke in 2011 ranked him 17th. He has won twelve Grammy Awards, with 33 nominations, and his second solo album has reached number one on the Billboard charts. The interviewer noticed the vast breadth of style and the music era he took for inspiration. In May 2015, the Music City Walk of Fame announced that they will honor White (along with Loretta Lynn) with a medal at his reopening in Nashville. On February 8, 2017, White was honorary from the Producers and Engineers Wing of Recording Academy during the annual Grammy Week celebration of his commitment "to work diligently to ensure that the quality and integrity of recorded music are captured and preserved."
Much has been made of "showmanship" and the merits of White. From the beginning, critics have debated the "riddle" of White's self-awareness of his claims of authenticity, with people falling on both sides of the problem. Joe Hagan of The New York Times asked in 2001, "Was Mr. White, a 25-year-old welder from south-west Detroit, blending these things with a wink? Or does the White Line just naa ve? " Alexis Petridis, of The Guardian, says White is "an enigmatic figure, not because he is very difficult or guarded, but only because what he tells you shows a lifelong excitement for behavior can not be understood. " White himself admits, "Sometimes I think I'm a simple man, but I think the reality is I'm really complicated, as simple as I expected."
Personal life
White protects her privacy and provides little details about her family life, even spreading false information. He stated that he did not consider his personal life relevant to his art, saying "This is like asking Michelangelo, 'What kind of shoes do you wear?'... In the end, it does not really matter... the only thing left is our notes and photos. "
His collection of esoterica included the New York City capture record from Leadbelly, driver license James Brown in Georgia from the 1980s, and a copy of the first Superman comic from June 1938. For $ 300,000 in January 2015, an online bidder won the auction for the first recording of Elvis Presley once - an acetate of two cover songs: "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin". In the March 6, 2015 issue, Billboard announced that the buyer is White. Vinyl footage was recorded on SUN Records in Memphis, Tennessee in the summer of 1953 when Presley was 18 years old.
Raised in Detroit, White is a fan of the Detroit Tigers baseball team.
Relationships
Jack and Meg got married on September 21, 1996 and divorced on March 24, 2000. In 2003, she had a brief relationship with actress Renà © à © Zellweger, whom she met during the filming of Cold Mountain. That summer, the couple had a car accident in which White broke his left index finger and was forced to reschedule most of the summer tour. He posted a recording of his finger on the web for fans. The separation of White and Zellweger became public in December 2004.
White met British model Karen Elson when she appeared in The White Stripes music video for "Blue Orchid". Video director Floria Sigismondi says "you feel the energy between them". They got married on June 1, 2005, in Manaus, Brazil. The wedding took place in a canoe on the Amazon River and was unveiled by a shaman. A Roman Catholic priest then validates their marriage. Manager Ian Montone is the best man and Meg White is a maid of honor. The official wedding announcement stated that "it was the first marriage" for both. In 2006, the couple had a daughter named Scarlett Teresa. Their second child, Henry Lee's son, was born in 2007.
The family lives in Brentwood, a southern suburb of Nashville, where Elson runs an ancient clothing store called Venus & amp; Mars . Elson provides vocals on White's first solo record. The couple announced their intention to divorce in June 2011, throwing a "positive swing humdinger party" to commemorate the breakup. On July 22, 2013, a judge in Nashville banned White for having "any contact with Karen Elson except with regard to the time of parenting with the children of small parties." A counter-attack was filed on 2 August 2013, stating that "The reason for filing this response is that the White Lady does not want to be described as anything but himself, violence against his wife and children." The divorce was resolved on November 26, 2013. Elson then recalled the charges, linked the "aggressive" process with his divorce lawyer, and said "those who get the end of marriage help create a downward spiral on the most vulnerable." White agrees, saying, "When lawyers digress in a situation like divorce, their goal is to become a criminal." The former pair is reportedly still in good condition.
'Eccentricity'
White has been called "eccentric." He is known for creating mythology around his efforts; examples include his claim that Lines began on Bastille Day, that he and Meg were two of the ten youngest brothers, and that the Third Man Records were once a candy factory. This statement is questionable or unproven, as when, in 2002, Detroit Free Press produced a copy of both marriage certificates and divorce certificates for her and Meg, who confirmed their history as a married couple. Both the official address of truth, and Jack continues to refer to Meg as his sister in the interview, including in the documentary Under the Great Northern White Light , filmed in 2007. In a 2005 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Jack alluded to this open secret, implying that it was meant to keep the focus on music rather than the couple's relationship:
When you see a band of two parts, husband and wife, girlfriend and girlfriend, you think, 'Oh, I understand...' When they're brothers and sisters, you go, 'Oh, that's interesting.' You care more about music, not relationships - are they trying to save their relationship by being in the band.
He has attachment to number three, which comes from looking at the three staples behind the sofa of Vladimir Kagan that he helps to coat his body as a disciple. His business often featured "three" in the title and he usually added "III" to the end of his name. During the 2005 White Stripes tour of England, White began to refer to himself as "Three Quid" - "quid" is English for pound sterling.
He maintains the aesthetic that he says challenges whether people will believe he is "real." He often color-codes his efforts, such as the Third Man Upholstery and The White Stripes, as well as Third Man Records, which are completely outfitted with yellow, black, red and blue (including staff uniforms). As a taxidermy enthusiast - who correlates with his work as a furnisher - he decorates his studio in preserved animals, including a peacock, a giraffe, and a Himalayan goat.
Controversy
On December 13, 2003, White engaged in a fight with Jason Stollsteimer, vocalist of Von Bondies, at the Magic Stick, Detroit club. White was charged with a humiliating mild attack. He pleaded guilty to lower charges of attack and batteries, was fined $ 750 (including court fees), and was sentenced to take anger management classes.
White has repeatedly referred to the conflict that erupted between him and fellow artists in Detroit's underground music scene after The White Stripes achieved international success. In a 2006 interview with the Associated Press, he said he finally left Detroit because, "he can not take negativity anymore." However, in an attempt to clarify his feelings towards the city of Detroit itself, he wrote and released a poem called "Courageous Dreaming Concern." In it, he expressed his affection for his hometown.
During their 2013 divorce process, Elson submitted a proof of White e-mail having sent him including disparaging remarks about The Black Keys. When asked about an email in a Rolling Stone magazine 2014 interview, White stood beside a saying that said, "I will hear TV commercials where the music tore out my voice, to the point that I think it's me.Am half the time, it's the Black Button. "He then apologized for the comment. However, in September 2015, Patrick Carney of the band posted a series of tweets stating that White tried to fight him in the bar. White dismissed the claim in a statement in the online magazine Pitchfork, saying that Carney should talk to him directly instead of on the internet. The next day, Carney posted a tweet that said, "Talk to jack for an hour he's cool. White tweeted on a Third Person Twitter account, "From one musician to another, you respect Patrick Carney."
On February 1, 2015, the Oklahoma University newspaper OU Daily took the story of the February 2 White's show at McCasland Field House which included the publication of White tour riders. Racers, especially the guacamole recipes that were included and the banana white ban behind the stage, received significant media coverage. It was later reported that in response to motorist publications, White's booking bureau, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, had banned his actions from playing shows at the University of Oklahoma. On February 15, White released an open letter addressed to "journalists and others looking for drama or diva" in which he referred to guacamole recipes as his tour manager "in jokes with local promoters" and "just something to break the boredom" While criticizing journalists who wrote about riders as "outside of their element." In the same letter he forgave OU Daily for publishing the story and reaffirming his desire to perform in Oklahoma.
In October 2016 - after learning that Donald Trump had used the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army" in the video campaign material - White denounced the presidential candidate, and began selling T-shirts that read "Icky Trump" through the Third Man Records website.
Philanthropy
White has provided financial support to institutions in his hometown of Detroit. In 2009, White donated nearly $ 170,000 for the renovation of baseball diamonds at Detroit Park in southwest Detroit. The Detroit Masonic Temple was almost closed in 2013 after it was revealed that the owner owed $ 142,000 in tax returns. In June 2013, it was revealed that White had already placed the entire bill. To thank him for his contribution, the temple has decided to change the name of the second largest theater, Jack White Theater.
The National Recording Preservation Foundation received the $ 200,000 first prize from White for use to restore and preserve the worsening sound recordings in the media such as reel-to-reel and old cylinder bands. Foundation director Eric J. Schwartz said the donation shows "commitment by songwriters and players who are really busy contributing their time on board, and money to preserve the legacy of recording our national anthem." White also serves on the foundation board.
In July 2016, White joined the 45 members of the Gender Equality Council in Nashville.
