" Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star " is a popular British lullaby. The lyrics are derived from early 19th century English poetry by Jane Taylor, "The Star". The poem, which is in the temple form, was first published in 1806 at Rhymes for the Nursery, a collection of poems by Taylor and his sister Ann. It's sung to the rhythm of the French melody Ah! vous dirai-je, maman , published in 1761 and later organized by several composers including Mozart with Twelve Variations on "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman". The English lyrics have five stanzas, though only the first is widely known. It has Roud Folk Song Index number 7666. This song is usually performed in C major key.

This song is in the public domain, and has many adaptations around the world.

The English lyrics were first written as poetry by Jane Taylor (1783-1824) and published under the title "The Star" in Rhymes for the Nursery by Jane and her sister Ann Taylor (1782-1866) in London in 1806:

The lyrics of "The Star" were first published with the song on The Singing Master: First Tune Book in 1838.

The adaptation of the song, named "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Earth", written by Charles Randolph Grean, Fred Hertz and Leonard Nimoy. It is included in Nimoy's first album in 1967. Leonard Nimoy Presents Spock Music From Outer Space, with him reading the text as Spock explaining how the stars desire on earth and beyond.
