He followed his first feature with the 15-part series Gloria's Romance (1916), another popular and critical vehicle. In 1917 Billie Burke was a favorite with silent movie buffs, rivaling Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Clara Kimball Young and Irene Castle. Billie Burke starred mainly in public drama and provocative comedy, similar in theme to "Mind-the-Paint" Girl, the most successful American game. The star's feminine charm rivals her acting skills, and as she wears dresses in dresses, fur and fashionable jewels, her clothes also win the devotion of female audiences. Among the films in which he appeared during this period were the Weapons and Girl (1917), Mysterious Miss Terry , Let's Get Divorce (1918 ), Good Gracious, Annabelle (1919), Away Goes Prudence (1920) and The Frisky Mrs. Johnson (1920).

When a family investment was abolished in Wall Street Crash the following year, he again took action to help her husband.

Burke made a Hollywood comeback in 1932, when he starred as Margaret Fairfield on A Bill of Divorcement, directed by George Cukor. She plays Katharine Hepburn's mother in the film, which is Hepburn's debut. Despite the death of her husband, Florenz Ziegfeld, during the production of the film, she re-acted shortly after her funeral.

In 1933, Burke served as Millicent Jordan, a scattered, poor woman who organized a dinner party at the Eight Dinner comedy, directed by George Cukor, co-starring Lionel Barrymore, Marie Dressler, John Barrymore, Jean Harlow, and Wallace Beery. The film was a huge success and revitalized his career and he later starred in comedy and musical, typecast as a ditzy, middle-haired and fluffy middle-class hairdresser with a high-pitched voice.

In 1936, MGM filmed a biography film sucked from Florenz Ziegfeld ( The Great Ziegfeld ), a film that won the Academy Awards for Best Film and Best Actress (Luise Rainer as wife of Ziegfeld, Anna Held). William Powell plays Flo Ziegfeld and Myrna Loy plays Burke, who upsets Burke because he's contracted with the studio and can play on his own, but MGM thinks he's too old to play himself, though he certainly looks that way. and the behavior falls perfectly.

In 1937, Burke appeared in the first Topper movie, about a man haunted by two socialite ghosts (played by Cary Grant and Constance Bennett), in which he plays Clara and a chirping storm and daffy. Her appearance as Emily Kilbourne at Merrily We Live (1938) resulted in her only Oscar nomination. In 1938 he was chosen to play Glinda the Good Witch of the North, in The Wizard of Oz music (1939), directed by Victor Fleming, starring Judy Garland. She has previously worked with Garland in the movie, Everybody Sing, where she plays the mother of histrionic actress histrion Judy. Directed by George Cukor offered him the role of Aunt Pittypat in Gone With the Wind (1939), but he refused and it was played by Laura Hope Crews, the character Cukor wanted to play in "Billie Burke-ish way" with "feeling the same funny ". Other successful films followed by Father of the Bride (1950) and Father's Little Dividend (1951), both directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, and Elizabeth Taylor.
