Kehidupan

He was born in Mecca, the daughter of one of the most prominent leaders of Quraish, Utbah ibn Rabi'ah, and Safiya bint Umayya bin Abd Shams. Therefore Safiyya and Utba are cousins. He has two brothers: Abu-Hudhayfah ibn 'Utbah and Walid ibn Utbah. He also has two sisters: Atika bint Utba and Umm Kulthum bint Utba. His father and uncle from Shaibah ibn Rab'a ah's father were among the main enemies of Islam who were eventually killed by Ali in the Battle of Badr.

Her first husband was Hafs ibn Al-Mughira from the Makhzum clan, to whom she gave birth to a son, Aban. Haf died young after illness. Hind later married his brother al-Fakah, who was much older than him, but he accepted it because he wanted his son to grow up in his father's family. Al-Fakah has a banquet hall that the public is allowed to enter freely. One day he left Hind alone in the hall and returned home to see one of his servants leave in a hurry. Assuming that his wife has a lover, he kicks in and asks who the man is. He replied that he had fallen asleep and did not know that anyone came in; but al-Fakah did not believe in him and he immediately divorced her.

Hind then finds himself as a subject of gossip. His father Utbah asked him to tell the truth about his divorce. "If the charge is true, I will arrange for Hafs to be killed, and if they are wrong, I will call him to appear before an astrologer from Yemen." Hinds swear by the gods that he is innocent, so Utbah is called a fortune teller. Hinds sit among women's crowds; the magician walked over, slapped his shoulder and said, "Get up, you holy woman and do not commit adultery. You will give birth to a King!" Al-Fakah then took his hand, ready to receive his back as his wife; but Hind pulled his hand and said, "Go, because I'll make sure to bring it to another man."

Hind rejects other applicants to marry Abu Sufyan, who is a cousin of the mother and second cousin of the father, c.599. His family borrowed Abu'l-Huqayq clan jewelry in Medina so he could decorate himself for the wedding.

Conflict with Muhammad

From 613 to 622, Muhammad preached the messages of Islam openly in Mecca. As he gathered followers, he and his followers faced increased persecution. In 622 they emigrated to the distant city of Yathrib, now known as Medina. They fought with the Meccans and attacked the Meccan caravan. The Meccans sent troops to defend the caravan. The Meccans and Muslims clashed at the Battle of Badr. The Muslims defeated the Meccans and Hinda's father, son, brother and uncle were all killed in the battle.

Hindu anger against Muslims is the largest and most powerful; he kept wailing in the open desert and pouring dust onto his face and clothes, lamenting his dead relative; and he did not stop until her husband Abu Sufyan urged him not to cry anymore and promised to avenge the death of his father and brother.

Hind accompany the Makkah forces to the Battle of Uhud. He includes women singing and dancing, urging their soldiers.

During this battle, Jubayr ibn Mut'im bribed his servant Wahshi ibn Harb with manumission to kill Muhammad Hamza's uncle. Every time Hind passed Wahshy, he called out, "Come on, black man! Ridicule you and us!" because Hamza is the one who killed his uncle. Wahshy speared Hamza at the height of the battle; After Hamza falls, Wahshy returns to take his spear and then leaves the battle. After the battle, Hind and the women went to cut the dead bodies of the Muslims. They cut their noses and ears and made them into necklaces and anklets (Hind gave them to Wahshy). He gouged out Hamza and bit him; but he can not swallow his bite and spit it out. (Ibn 'Abdu l-Barr states in his book "al-Ist?" B "that he cooks Hamza's heart before eating it.) Then he climbs a stone and" squeals at the top of his voice ":

After the Meccan occupation of 630, however, Hind receives Islam. Sunni Muslims now consider him to be among the ranks of Muhammad's companions.

Battle of Yarmouk

The Battle of Yarmouk is considered one of the most decisive battles in military history, in which Muslims are greatly outnumbered by the Romans, but with the help of women and boys among them, defeating the Eastern Roman Empire. The fighting was also regarded as one of Khalid ibn al-Walid's greatest military victories. This solidified his reputation as one of the greatest tactics and cavalry commanders in history.

Two of the earliest historical books on Islam gave Hind a great honor for his actions amid the battle. They show how early Muslim women, including Hind bint Utbah and Asma binti Abi Bakar, played a role in the Battle of Yarmouk. Muslims are defeated. Whenever the men escaped, the women turned them over and fought, fearing if they were defeated, the Romans would enslave them. Whenever the man flees, the women will sing:

Hind sang the same song she sang when she fought against the Muslims in Uhud's battle:

After seeing the women fight, the men will come back and say to each other: "If we do not fight, then we are more entitled to sit in the quarters than women."

At one point, when the arrows started pounding on Abu Sufyan and he tried to turn his horse, Hind hit his horse in the face with a tent peg and said: "Where do you think you are going, O Sakhr? Go back to battle and try until you counterbalance people those who stirred up the past against Muhammad. "An arrow then struck Abu Sufyan's eyes and he became blind.
