Abigail "Abby" Sciuto is a fictional character from the NCIS television series on CBS Television, and is played by Pauley Perrette. In the season 10 episode titled "Hit and Run", the young Abby is played by Brighton Sharbino in a flashback. Like Jethro Gibbs, Anthony DiNozzo, and Dr. Donald Mallard, Abby was introduced in "Ice Queen" and "Meltdown" episodes of the JAG television show (which together serves as a backdoor pilot for NCIS ), and, as of May 2018, appearing on every episode of NCIS, in addition to showing in the event spin-off, NCIS: Los Angeles (two episodes) and NCIS: New Orleans (two episodes). The role has made Perrette one of the most popular actresses on Primetime US television in 2011, according to Q. Score.

Abby is a forensic scientist at the headquarters of the Navy's Criminal Investigation Department at Washington Navy Yard, with expertise in ballistics, digital forensics, and DNA analysis. In the first episode of the seventh season, the "Truth or Consequences", DiNozzo, while under the influence of the truth serum, describes it as "a paradox wrapped in an oxymoron that is closed in contradiction in terms.Sleeping in a coffin. that you've met. "His gothic dress style and his passion for supernatural death and contrast with his usually hyperactive attitude and enthusiasm about his work.

On October 4, 2017, Perrette announced that he would leave the show at the end of season 15; CBS broadcasted its final episode on May 8, 2018.

Concepts and transmissions

Before his career in acting, Pauley Perrette had studied at John Jay School of Criminal Science in New York, having previously aspired to "work with animals, be in rock 'n' roll, or become an FBI agent." She finally started acting, then said, "There's no medicine I've ever done that works as well as being an actor. What you're looking for with substance abuse is running away but by acting you can escape into 1,000 different things without almost Killing do it yourself, act is total drugs! "

Perrette was instrumental in the role of Abby Sciuto in 2003. Regarding the issue of character creation and purpose, he said "[The creator of NCIS] Don Bellisario told me that when he created the Magnum, PI he wanted to introduce the veterinarian Vietnam is against negative stereotypes, so with Abby, she wants to take people with an alternative tattoo and make her a happy, totally united and successful person. All the manuscripts say about her are: black hair, caffeinated and smart... She's really, I really do not realize that somebody thinks she looks weird. She thinks she looks beautiful and never calls herself anything other than happy, and I'm fighting for it. "

Child actress Brighton Sharbino plays a role to portray 10-year-old Abby for the 10th episode of Hit and Run, which features flashbacks to the young Abby. Sharbino, who closely resembles Perrette, reportedly spent time with the latter "partly to capture the behavior of NCIS veterinarians and the like."

Characterization

Abby has a gothic-clad style, including a black dress and T-shirt, miniskirt, and goth jewelry, including anklets and foot rings. She wears dyed pigtail hair (because Perrette's hair is dyed because she is a natural blonde) and has at least nine tattoos on her neck, arms, back, ankles, and other places. Choker his neck seems to be one of his favorite jewelry. While some of the tattoos are Perrette and real, the others are makeup, as the big cross on his back is applied on the occasion when Perrette shows his back naked in front of the camera. The spider web around his neck is also unreal, because producer Bellisario wants the character to have a tattoo that will be visible (almost) at any time. However, Perrette has expressed dislike with the spider tattoo, saying, "It just takes a few minutes to do it, but it feels like an old gum," and hopes for an episode where Abby gets it removed. Abby also has a hippo doll named "Bert" which makes a bloated/farted sound when squeezed, which has been used for comic effects when Abby is upset. She adorned several areas in her lab with toys like 'Bleeding Edge Goth' and 'Teddy Scares' dolls. The Teddy Scare 'Rita Mortis' can be seen sitting next to her computer monitor. Abby's biggest pet blow, as revealed in "Lost and Found" season five by Timothy McGee, are people who claim to be vegetarian, but still eat chicken; the second biggest pet peeve is the people who go wrong with the evidence.

Pauley Perrette commented, "Don (Bellisario) wants to make Abby an alternative lifestyle, but not as an addict or a thief, he's probably the smartest person on television." When asked about the portrayal of the goth character, he replied that Abby "would not call herself anything but Abby... What she represents is a smart and capable girl who can not be reduced to stereotypes."

Abby drove a dark red SUV 1930/31 Ford Model A coupe bearing the personal number plate "4NS CHIK" Washington, DC, which is clearly featured in the "Tag Dog" season five. He previously drove a hearse (mentioned in "Hiatus, Part I"), which went bad and had a bald tire.

Like Gibbs, Abby enjoys caffeine, especially in the form of a large cup of fictional drink called "Caf-Pow". Sometimes, when he fears caffeine interferes with his sleep, he drinks "No-Caf-Pow" instead. (According to Perrette, the cup was initially filled with a Hawaiian Punch, but when he stopped eating and drinking refined sugar, unsweetened cranberry juice was used instead.) When changing the artwork in his lab during "Hung Out to Dry", he stated that he had " feelings of Chagall ", a reference to Marc Chagall, a Jewish Belarussian artist whose main work comes from fantasy and dreams. Her favorite term for something extraordinary is "hinky". It also shows that he likes attending concerts, but his failure to wear earplugs on one of them leaves him temporary hearing the next day, forcing him to ask DiNozzo to help analyze some audio evidence.

Abby has shown a tendency to be very agitated, until almost panicked, if there is a team that is badly injured. When Gibbs is hospitalized, Abby ends up on the verge of a nervous breakdown, pacing back and forth while delivering an irregular flow-conscious request that explains (inter alia) how close Gibbs and he is, why he comes after visiting hours, how he feels about Gibbs who was hurt, and how important it was for him that Gibbs did not die of his wounds.

Abby developed a fondness for Butch, a naval tracking dog, in a five-episode "Dog Tags" season. He changed his name to "Jethro" in honor of Gibbs, because it was "handsome and calm" like him. The dog was framed for the murder of a lowly officer, because the dog was found at the house of the murder victim, but Abby proved that Jethro was innocent. After that, Abby forced McGee to adopt the dog, which made her very anxious (because Jethro had attacked her at the beginning of the episode). Abby prefers to adopt Jethro himself, but his landlord does not allow tenants to own pets.

Backstory

Sciuto is portrayed as having a happy and normal childhood. Her younger sister, Luca, was first mentioned in the ninth season episode "Enemy on the Hill". He appeared in season 10 in a flashback. He also mentioned that he has a niece and that his grandmother is an Olympic swimmer who won a silver medal. He has mentioned several uncles, including one named Teddy who owns a bar, named Horace whom he calls Horace "the Haggler" during an episode, and a man named Larry who appears to be wearing knee-high socks and fanny packets. Both her parents are dead, though when they pass it is never mentioned.

Abby is a child of hearing that is adopted by deaf parents and likes her music loudly. In the episode "Seadog", Gibbs tells Tony that Abby knows how to use sign language because his parents are deaf. Abby has stated that she dreamed of visiting the Galapagos Islands, Dollywood, and Israel before she died. Abby graduated with a full degree from Louisiana State University with three majors in sociology, criminology, and psychology. He earned his master's degree from Georgia State University in criminology and forensic science. Sciuto's interest in forensics comes from living near a damaged yard and is intrigued by the cause and effect of the wreck. Season of nine episodes of "Enemy on the Hill" reveals that Abby has another brother, Kyle (played by Daniel Louis Rivas), who is his sister, since it was revealed that Abby was actually adopted.

He seems to be an expert in his studies; he is rarely confused by the puzzles that the Gibbs team presented him. Abby has been proven to have skills in traditional forensics, computer forensics, and hacking. He has implied that he has a PhD in chemistry. It has been shown that he does all the work on the evidence itself. In season three, when he was given an assistant, Charles "Chip" Sterling, he rebelled, but eventually learned to stick with him. However, their partnership work did not last long, as Abby later discovered Sterling had trick DiNozzo for murder. Affected, Chip threatened him with a knife; he immediately subdued it, tied it with tape, and insisted on being allowed to work on his own since then, something that was later approved by Director Jenny Shepard.

It has also been mentioned many times that he is a devout Roman Catholic and is on a bowling team with several nuns.

In the 2009 episode NCIS: Los Angeles "Random On Purpose", Abby is depicted in her late 20s, showing she was born in the early 1980s. (Actress Perrette was born in 1969, and was 40 years old when this episode was first aired.) However, in a flashback on the 2007 NCIS episode "Hit and Run", Abby proved to be 10 years old in the early 1980s, implying that she was born in the early 1970s.

Resignation

In Season 15 episodes of "One Step Forward" and "Two Steps Back," MI6 agent Clayton Reeves died protecting Abby from a hired assassin to kill her. Abby was badly wounded in the attempt, but recovered and deceived the person who wanted her to die confessing. He resigned from NCIS to accompany Reeves's body back to England and embarked on a charity to honor Reeves and his mother to help the homeless.

Relationships

Abby is familiar with all the other team members. He loves Ducky, who uses his full name, Abigail. She is called Abby or Abbs by almost everyone, except Director Leon Vance, who calls her Ms. Sciuto. Abby is very loyal to the team, and considers them family, which is shown by her sadness when one or more of them are in serious danger. Likewise, the team generally likes him and describes him as a "favorite".

Before his death on duty, Special Agent Caitlin Todd was a close friend of Abby. They often hang around after work, and Abby is one of the few who knows what Kate's tattoos really are.

He was friendly with Medical Assistant Jimmy Palmer. He has helped her with an autopsy and Rolfed him when he injured himself in the morgue in "Life Before His Eyes". In "Newborn King", Palmer brings his future father-in-law, Ed Slater, to NCIS. Later in the episode, McGee visits Abby to see she has locked two in the back room. Jimmy states if Slater does not comment on Abby's tattoos, then they will not be out in time, implying that he's taking Abby's side. Jimmy also chose Abby to be his "best woman" at his marriage in "Missionary Position".

In the episode "Crescent City", he is shown to have a relationship with Senior Special Agent Dwayne Cassius Pride, who runs the New Orleans NCIS office.

Leroy Jethro Gibbs

Gibbs is described as having a close (father/son-like) relationship with Abby, who was originally only one of two characters (the other being Ducky) not to be afraid of him. Gibbs is often seen giving Abby a kiss on the cheek, and hugs him, especially when he does a good job on his case. He often brings him fresh Caf-Pow when he arrives in the lab to get information about a case, whether he has called him to tell him about it. Gibbs generally tolerates Abby's gothic style, knowing that he's doing a great job on his job, but often has to ask him to get right to the point when he starts to ramble. Abby sometimes turns into Gibbs when she needs to talk about something personal that bothers her and she helps by listening to her. Both Gibbs and Abby were proficient with American Sign Language, as Abby grew up with deaf parents. On several occasions, Abby is described as a "favorite", a fact that did not escape the rest of the team, but they did not envy her.

Gibbs is also very protective of Abby, especially when he is in very serious danger. For example, in the episode "Bloodbath", he was threatened by a hitman hired by the defendant in the case in which he testified, which was also complicated by ex-girlfriend Mikel Mawher (guest star, Vincent Young), against whom he had a restraining order, then call him a breaking command. When Gibbs found out about this, he sharply told Mikel, "The only reason you can still walk is because I've never heard of you to this day!"

Sometimes, the protection also extends from the rest of the team. For example, in the episode "Spider and the Fly", Alejandro Rivera came to NCIS and began threatening Abby for not sending a report about the assassination of Pedro Hernandez, Rivera's father, whom Gibbs had killed 20 years earlier in retaliation for Hernandez killing Gibbs's first wife Shannon, and his daughter, Kelly. The entire team, including Ducky and Vance, ordered him to leave him alone and not disturb him, or escorted from NCIS Headquarters. Rivera eventually abandoned his own covenant, but was later arrested for trying to kill Gibbs and his father in a hiding house, and inadvertently killed his sister, Paloma.

Gibbs's concern for Abby's safety is that he will even drop his typical cup of coffee if he is in serious danger. Twice this happened: in the episode of "Kill Ari" when Ari shot him while he was in the lab, other times were in the "Driven" episode when he was trapped in an experimental Humvee, which had been rigged to be filled with exhaust. smoke and suffocate its inhabitants.

Ziva David

Abby was initially cold to Ziva David when the latter first arrived at NCIS because she, like the rest of the team, was still mourning the death of Kate Todd and the fact that Ziva was Ari Haswari's half-brother. Abby would doodle Ziva's photos and often mispronounce her family name to upset her. Then, irritated by Ziva's calm response to the injured Gibbs in the bombing, Abby slaps her.

Abby finally arrives, and Ziva and her become good friends. It is compacted in the episode "Capitol Offense" when Ziva, with gratitude for Abby allowing her to live in her place (Ziva's house is being slandered for termites), bought her a chocoholic's choice cupcake. Cupcake soon disappeared, and Abby took all his forensic knowledge to find it. In the end, McGee was found to have taken a cupcake, angered Abby and the others. At first, Ziva gasped whenever Abby would hold her because she did not know why Abby did it, but eventually she received Abby's hug without difficulty.

At the end of season seven, Abby was shown to be present at Ziva's citizenship ceremony, along with Ducky, McGee, and Jimmy Palmer.

Later in the episode "Gone", the two were more tied up when Ziva took on a teenage girl who witnessed her father's murder and the kidnapping of her best friend when they both tried to help the girl feel comfortable during an ongoing investigation.

After Ziva's father was shot dead in "Shabbat Shalom", Abby was shown baking a cake in an attempt to help her feel better.

Tony DiNozzo

Abby's relationship with Tony is a friendly relationship, with both friendly, friendly to each other, and at loggerheads on topics such as movies and personal effects. Abby may be the only member of the NCIS cast to show love and knowledge about films that even approached Tony's match. In "Twilight", after Tony narrowly avoids being part of the explosion on his first day back from sick leave after getting an outbreak of pneumonia, he runs towards him and hugs him so hard it almost falls. In the episode, "Frame-Up", he almost alone solves forensic evidence used to frame Tony's murder to clear his name, then subjugate the assassins - his assistant Chip Sterling - when he threatens him with a knife. Tony's car explosion in "Bury Your Dead" causes him to become increasingly obsessed with his work, to prevent thoughts of the possibility of his death. In the "Reunion", after Tony, McGee, and Gibbs rescue Ziva from Somalia, Abby starts off with harsh words criticizing Ziva for his unbelief at Tony, who, in a trademarked Abby fashion, ends up with him saying how worried she is about Ziva , and hug him. This then triggers a confrontation between Tony and Ziva that causes their relationship to be returned to normal. Tony sometimes joins Abby in the lab and acts like Gibbs when he is absent.

Timothy McGee

He has a relationship with McGee that he states that he wants to stay relaxed during the first season. Although the relationship ends at the end of the same season, they both have shown jealousy when the opposite sex cares for each other. Several erotic jokes and tensions continued between the two over the next few seasons, implied by facts such as McGee's apparent ability to describe the inside of Abby's bedroom in his novel. After learning Abby sleeping in a coffin, he said, "You said it was a box couch," indicating he's at least staying. The implications are even further when he adds, "I can not believe I'm sleeping in a coffin," and she shyly replied, "Not just sleeping." In the episode of "Bloodbath" when Abby's life is threatened and the team sends her home with McGee, Abby is revealed at one point to store a toothbrush in McGee's apartment.

Their temptation became less prominent in later seasons, and TV Guide Critics Senior Matt Roush suggested this was due to the producers' fear of using romance in series to excess. He reasoned, "pairing Gibbs's four members in a romantic manner may seem like an exaggeration, and the dynamic Tony-Ziva (even if not really acted upon) is so integral to the core of events that I'm not surprised they keep McGee and Abby on a more loving level brother. "He further argues that he" would not expect to change ".

Donald "Ducky" Mallard

Abby is called Abigail by Ducky, who often calls her by her first name. Although in the episode "Faking It", he thanks him and calls him by the name "Abby" instead of "Abigail". Abby is used to having a fear of an autopsy table, which she shares with Ducky in episode 16 of season one, "BÃÆ'ªte Noire" when Ducky and Kate are taken hostage.

Appearance on NCIS: Los Angeles

In the episode of "Random on Purpose", Abby, previously seen at a videoconference or talking to someone from her lab in Washington, DC, arrived in Los Angeles to meet with the Office of the Special Project Team (OSP) when he told them that he was investigating a serial killer called Phantom who had killed 15 people across the country and also left no DNA or even physical evidence at the scene.

After forming a strong friendship with Eric Beale, Abby developed friendships with the OSP team, including G. Callen (Chris O'Donnell), Sam Hanna (LL Cool J), and especially the operating manager Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt), who commented that Abby is "the first NCIS employee [she] ever met with a sense of style". Kensi Blye, Special Agent of NCIS, a forensic expert, praised Abby for her high thought, stating that she lived up to the hype.

Abby was later kidnapped by Phantom, later declared a receptionist law firm named Tom Smith, who tried to kill her to keep her identity secret, for she hoped to go around killing more people, having developed something appropriate for it.. Although Vance mentioned that Gibbs and the NCIS Major Case Response Team were on their way to Los Angeles to save him, Abby was rescued by the OSP team's efforts and then was shown telling Gibbs and McGee the video-conferencing link that he was good.

Until now, Abby has not returned to Los Angeles or she reappeared in every video conference call that strongly shows that her appearance in the first season is only one time.

Reception

During the first season of NCIS , Ross Warneke of The Age wrote about the character, "His role is very important in the show because, like so many crime series lately, of the many acts Perrette's only drawback is his diction. Is it just me who has difficulty understanding him? "In January 2005, Bill Keveney of USA Today compared the characters to NCIS to those in > Magnum, PI and commented, "Abby the tattooed, lazy man allegedly anyone but, is a no-what-he-seem-to-be-Bellisario award for Magnum, a well-functioning and contrasting Vietnamese vet. many depictions of the era. " New York Times author Bill Carter describes Abby as a" regular gothic television personality "in October of the same year.

Later on the show, reception continues to be largely positive, with some critics viewing it as "the most sociable and affectionate group member". In 2009, David Martingale of Star-Telegram wrote, "Abby Sciuto, a forensic scientist who, with high-energy caffeine and his Gothic kooky/cheerleader wardrobe, is one of a kind". June Thomas of Slate Magazine noted in November 2011, "Abby may look like a freak, but she is a church patriot." He is described as "spacy" and "a smart and fun personality with forensic skills that are even greater than his charm."

C. Coville of Cracked criticized the choice to describe Abby's age as a "late twenties" in his 2009 appearance at NCIS: Los Angeles , finding it untrustworthy to someone who "has still somehow taken a PhD in chemistry, a bachelor's degree in sociology, criminology, and psychology, and a good knowledge of hacking and computer forensic science".

In March 2011, AOL named Abby as number 95 in the list of 100 Most Impressive Women's TV Characters. In April 2013, a study by E-Poll Market Research noted Pauley Perrette and Cote de Pablo, who portray Ziva David, among the top 10 most fascinating celebrities in America. Perrette and de Pablo were ranked as number 5 and 3 respectively.

Sciuto is an Italian surname, indicating that this character is meant to be Italian-American.
