" The Slutty Pumpkin Returns " is the eighth episode of the seventh season of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother , and the 144th episode in its entirety. It originally aired on October 31, 2011.

Plot
Ted's future reminded his children that ten years earlier he had met Slutty Pumpkin during a Halloween party at the top of the building, but lost Kit Kat he had written down and waited every year to get him back.
In October 2011, Ted saw a slutty pumpkin costume in the window of a shop, where the owner revealed the identity of the woman who hired him in 2001. Ted met Naomi, the girl who wore the costume; she has also been looking for him, and they started dating. Ted realizes that they have no chemistry and that he has no feelings for her, but he can not end the relationship so soon after finally finding himself. When Ted decides that he should break up with Naomi, he is stunned to see him in a creepy pumpkin costume; she says that she loves her and they have sex. They arrived at a Halloween party on the roof wearing the costumes they wore when they first met. After Naomi consumed Tootsie Roll cocktail, she confessed that she found their relationship as awkward as Ted did, but also equally refused to end it. They broke up peacefully.
Lily's opinion is disturbed by the fact that she has a "pregnancy brain", and impulsively decides she wants to stay in the suburbs after she and Marshall are given the home of her grandparents. Though Marshall wanted to live in the suburbs, he did not want to take advantage of Lily's state of mind. Lily tried to trick Marshall into giving up on the utility of a trick-or-treater. When Lily realizes how her pregnancy brain has affected her ability to make decisions, she agrees to wait until she can think clearly before she and Marshall decide if they want to move.
Robin learned from Barney's father, Jerome Whittaker, that Barney's father was born in Manitoba, making Barney a quarter of Canada. Barney was horrified and Robin teased him in revenge for all the taunts he experienced from him. She agreed to stop if Barney wore the Mountie costume for a Halloween party on the roof, but Barney refused and ended up wearing American-themed boxing clothes. Robin points out that Barney does not feel uncomfortable on a cold roof in his naked costume, because of his ancestors in Canada. When he returns home later, a fantasy sequence takes place where the Canadian side manifests physically and Barney in vain attempts to hit him; Canadian version Barney is rude, unfriendly and unharmed throughout the attack.

Donna Bowman from The A.V. The club rated the episode in B, praising Katie Holmes in particular for exceeding low expectations. Robert Canning of IGN claims that "the character intimacy is what makes 'The Slutty Pumpkin Returns' work so well".
This episode attracted 10.49 million viewers.
