" The Wrong Goodbye " is the 87th episode of the TV series The CW Gossip Girl . It is also the 22nd and final episode of the fourth season. This episode was directed by Patrick Norris and the second final in the series written by Joshua Safran. It also marks the second time that the show has filmed a scene in California. "The Wrong Goodbye" aired on CW in the United States on May 16, 2011, and was seen live by an audience of 1.36 million Americans. "The Wrong Goodbye" takes the place of previously abandoned episodes. Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) searches for the lost Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) who is held hostage by the unstable Russell Thorpe (Michael Boatman). The uncertain Charlie Rhodes (Kaylee DeFer) escaped the humiliation of being denied by Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley). Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr) reluctantly join after discovering the secret behind Charlie's behavior. Plot
After learning that Charlie had not taken the drug, Serena and Vanessa reluctantly joined to find it. Chuck, Nate, Vanessa, and Serena immediately surround Dan, exclaiming that they need something from him. Chuck asks where Blair is when Serena and Vanessa ask for Charlie's whereabouts. One of Blair's old friends revealed that Blair had left the party. While accompanying Chuck to their apartment in search of Blair, Nate confesses that he told Raina (Tika Sumpter) everything behind his mother's death. Chuck scolds Nate until Raina interjects them to apologize. Blair was taken hostage by Russell at Chuck's hotel. Pretending to run away, he calls Chuck on his phone, revealing his location. At Chuck's hotel, Chuck rescues Blair while Raina stops his father. With the arrival of the police, Chuck offers Blair a limo ride, and Raina is homesick with Nate, intending to return to Chicago. Chuck suggests avoiding Constance's party by going to the bar mitzvah in the same way as the Death Bringing Holiday, which Blair received. Chuck and Blair have sex while Prince Louis (Hugo Becker) waits for Blair in Constance. While looking for Charlie in the attic, Vanessa finds Dan's novel and reads it. "The Wrong Goodbye" is the second part of the two-part season finale. Gossip Girl executive producer , Joshua Safran noted that the most important character of the show was Georgina Sparks and discussed working at the end of the two-part season for the first time on the show.

New York Magazine took a reference from last season and commented on how the end of the season was written.
