Jodie Auckland Whittaker (born June 17, 1982) is a British actress. She became famous in her feature film debut 2006 Venus, where she received a British Independent Film Award and Satellite Award nomination. He was then praised for his role in the science fiction movie sect Serang Blok , Black Mirror episodes "Your Entire History", and as a grieving mother of Beth Latimer at Broadchurch .
On July 16, 2017, the BBC announced that Whittaker would be the thirteenth and first female incarnation of The Doctor in the British TV drama Doctor Who. He officially took on the role of Peter Capaldi in a special Christmas episode of 2017 "Twice Upon a Time" when Capaldi Twelfth Doctor was regenerated into Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor. Whittaker will appear in his first full series as Doctor in the eleventh series, due to air by the end of 2018.

Whittaker made his professional debut at The Storm at Shakespeare's Globe in 2005. He has worked in movies, television, radio and theater. In 2007, he stood for a short time for unhealthy Carey Mulligan in the production of Royal Court The Seagull, and appeared in a fundraising game at Almeida Theater.
In Whittaker's first major role, he acts as Jessie/Venus in the movie Venus . On July 16, 2017, Whittaker was announced as Third Doctor in the science fiction television series Doctor Who; she will be the first woman to play the title role. He had previously worked with the Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall on Broadchurch . He acknowledged that he had to "say a lot of lies" after being cast to keep information confidential and use the word "Clooney" when talking about the role. She urged fans not to be afraid of her gender, saying "Doctor Who represents all that is exciting about the change.Events have gone through many changes, and this is just a new, different, not a frightening one." Chibnall says that he always wanted a woman for that part and that Whittaker was their first choice.
Reactions to Whittaker's casting were mostly positive, although a sizable minority was not happy. Some say that female Doctors will be good examples for young girls, while others feel that Doctors are only meant to be men, or criticize casting as an exercise in political correctness. Whittaker made his debut in the 2017 Christmas special "Twice Upon a Time".
Personal life
Whittaker has been married to American actor and writer Christian Contreras since 2008. Their first child was born in April 2015. His nephew Harry Whittaker, who died at the age of three in 2014, has Down syndrome and appears in Emmerdale as Leo Goskirk, a character with the same condition. Whittaker identified himself as a feminist. He lives in London.
