Premise
The show is based around the 2010 Lifetime television movie of the same name, with Jennifer Love Hewitt repeating the lead role. The series, however, is re-imagining of the film and is not a direct continuation of the movie's storyline. The most notable change is that the husband of the Hewitt character left his family in a television series before he was involved in prostitution, whereas in the film he went with his children after the scandal was revealed.
The pilot was written by Jordan Budde, and the producer of this film all produced the series executives with Hewitt. Budde got the job because Suzanne Martin was busy working on Hot in Cleveland at the time. After being given a task, Budde watched the original film and felt that the story had ended and also that it was "super pressing" instead he decided to reorganize the show and put it that way into the accepted Lifetime. At one point, the network was playing around with the idea of ââcalling the show "The Rub" and had nothing to do with the original film although in the end they decided against it.
At the beginning Hewitt was involved in casting his masseuse client, though as the show progressed, he rolled back his involvement in this. This, in part, leads to complaints that "the people are all very handsome". Then the team tries to throw "more real men" though at this point the network refuses, insisting "hot guys".
Three promotional materials were filmed in October 2011 and released before the inaugural series. The first of these materials, released on January 26, 2012, featured Hewitt featuring "Big Spender" Shirley Bassey in a video-style music ad, referring to the true nature of the work at a massage parlor. The video received much interest from the media due to Hquitt's role, stating that "based on this new promo, the show will get very hot."

Controversy
Client List is the subject of a national campaign by a licensed massage therapist to stop the show before it airs. The Group, "Massage Therapists Against The Client List", asserts that:
Client List is a series that perpetuates the misconception that Massage Therapy includes inappropriate sexual intercourse. Massage Therapists are trained health care professionals and in most countries are licensed and regulated by state medical boards. They adhere to the code of ethics and in some cases are under higher ethical standards than other health care professionals - because of this same misconception. Many therapists now work in doctors and hospitals offices and provide valuable therapeutic services. Client List is a big step backwards. "
A & amp; E responded to controversy with the following press release:

Updates and cancellations of the show
The third expected update for this series was held after the announcement of Jennifer Love Hewitt's pregnancy in June 2013. Hewitt reportedly wanted/insisted on her real real father, her fellow star and fiancé Brian Hallisay, also a fictitious baby father who was born by her character in the third season, while executives and writers wanted Colin Egglesfield's character as a father. The lifetime has not yet been decided, leading to a delay in renewal that lasts until October 2013. Due to creative differences between Hewitt, Lifetime, Sony Pictures Television and ITV Studios America, the show was officially canceled on November 1, 2013 after two seasons.
