Mini DisplayPort ( MiniDP or mDP ) is a miniature version of DisplayPort's digital audio-visual interface.
This was announced by Apple in October 2008. In 2013, all new Apple Macintosh computers have ports, just as LED Cinema Display does. However, in 2016 Apple began to gradually remove the port and replace it with a new USB-C connector. Mini DisplayPort is also installed for some PC motherboards, and some notebook PCs from Asus, Microsoft, MSI, Lenovo, Toshiba, HP, Dell, and other manufacturers.
Unlike its Mini-DVI and Micro-DVI predecessors, the Mini DisplayPort can drive screen devices with resolutions up to 2560ÃÆ'â ⬠"1600 (WQXGA) in DisplayPort 1.1a, and 4096ÃÆ' â â¬" 2160 (4K) implementations in DisplayPort 1.2 implementation. With the adapter, Mini DisplayPort can push the display device with a VGA, DVI, or HDMI interface.
Apple offers free licenses for the Mini DisplayPort but they reserve the right to revoke the license if the licensee "initiates an action for patent infringement against Apple".
