Histori

Netmums was founded by Siobhan Freegard, Cathy Court and Sally Russell who met at the playgroup in Harrow, northwestern England in 2000.

Freegard was born in Bristol and started his career as a provider of hospitality providers Keith Prowse. She has written for The Guardian newspaper, and has appeared on Loose Women's television show and Loose Women this morning. Co-founders Court and Russell work in the field of food technology and environmental science respectively.

Netmums started as a local site, then gradually expanded to cover other local areas, all of which were initially managed by volunteer site editors using Adobe Contribute and Adobe Dreamweaver web editing software.

In 2009, the website was included in "50 Websites and Blogs for the Best Parents", and the business is estimated to be worth £ 50 million.

Cathy Ranson was editorial chief since 2010 until she left in March 2015, replaced by Annie O'Leary.

In 2011, the number of registered members of the website reached 1 million. and shortly after this, the three founders of the company sold their company to the European group aufeminin, which initially maintained control over the Netmums brand, but later left the site to pursue other jobs.

As of March 2012, Netmums and Cint's data marketing company made a panel of 4,000 participants to gain market insight about mothers with babies.

In September 2014, Rimi Atwal, formerly of Bauer Media Group, was appointed as managing director.

In the New Year 2014, founders of Netmums, Freegard, Court, and Russell receive OBE from the Queen for Family Services.

In 2013, Netmums announced registration of ads with Children Oilatum and Aquafresh at Stiefel Laboratories, as they revealed a 46% increase occurred in advertising spending on the site from April 2012 to April 2013.

In 2016, Netmums made a profit after tax of £ 1,518,962 with a turnaround à £ 5,064,760 (down 33% from 2015).

In April 2017, Netmum signed a data partnership with MailOnline's daily Mail Mail newspaper, which aims to offer advertisers more accurate market segmentation and targeted ads from UK mum's viewers, and to enable Netmum to validating what parts of their audiences are regular users of the MailOnline website or app.

During 2017 and 2018, Netmums made significant changes to how their sites are maintained, this includes restructuring existing departments and reducing the number of staff employed in different roles. Due to restructuring, Netmums now operate with minimal moderation, both on their local sites as well as on the Netmums Coffeehouse forum.
