Sala Gift: My Mother Holocaust Story is an account by Ann Kirschner about her mother Sala's experience in the Holocaust, mainly based on her mother's collection of letters, that she has been accepted while in camp Nazi work, written by about 80 correspondents. The most famous letter writer was a friend of Sala Ala Gertner, who hung on Auschwitz for his role in the only armed uprising in the camp.
Sala's original letters and diaries are the permanent collection of the Jewish Dorot Division of the New York Public Library. The book was later adapted into a drama by Arlene Hutton entitled Letters to Sala . The letters have also been the subject of a traveling exhibition, and a documentary is under way by director Murray Nossel.
This book was published by Simon and Schuster/Free Press in 2006, and has been translated into several languages: in German as Polish Salas Geheiminis, like Polish Listy z Pude? Ka, Italian, such as Il Dono di Sala, French, such as Le Secret de ma m̮'̬re, and China.
It was reviewed by the New York Times , and the first chapter was reprinted in the paper on November 12, 2006
