Purity ring (also known as promise ring , abstinent ring , or purity ring ) is worn as a sign of purity. This practice originated in the United States in the 1990s among groups of sexual affiliations affiliated with Christians. Wearing a purity ring is usually accompanied by a religious oath to practice abstinence until marriage. The chastity ring is part of the sex education movement without abstinence and is also intended to help the wearer to recognize their self-esteem and remind them that there is more to the relationship than sex.

Under the Bush administration, organizations that promote abstinence and encourage teenagers to sign a promise of virginity or wear purity rings have received federal grants. The Silver Ring Thing, a subsidiary of the evangelical Pennsylvania church, has received more than $ 1 million from the government to promote abstinence and sell its rings in the United States and abroad.
In 2005 the ACLU Massachusetts brought charges against this decision, alleging that the Silver Ring program does not guarantee its secularity and therefore is not eligible for federal funding because of the First Amendment Clause Clause.
Many celebrities, including Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Jessica Simpson, and Jonas Brothers, have been wearing purity rings.
