Theodore Evelyn " Ted " Mosby is a fictitious character and the main protagonist in the US television sitcom How I Meet Your Mother , played by Josh Radnor. Ted also serves as the event's future narrator, voiced by Bob Saget, as he tells his children the "long version" of how he met their mother.

Ringkasan karakter

Ted is the central character of the show. Born April 25, 1978, he came from Shaker Heights, Ohio (like the creator of the Carter Bays show), a graduate of Wesleyan University (such as Bays and co-creator Craig Thomas), Eagle Scout, and an architect. After his best friend, Marshall Eriksen, was involved in a pilot episode, Ted decided to try to find his soul mate. This quest informs the general direction of the show, along with Ted's relationship with other main characters, Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), and Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris).

Personality

Ted's character is largely based on the show's creator, Carter Bays, with the friendship between him and fellow creator Craig Thomas being the friendship base between Ted and Marshall. His personality is also partly based on Ross Geller of NBC's sitcom Friends, including Ted's original profession as an archaeologist similar to Ross's profession as a paleontologist. His profession was later transformed into an architect, as the authors had difficulty adjusting his profession as an archaeologist in the New York setting.

Ted is vulnerable to romantic movements in question; in the pilot episode, for example, he stole a French blue horn (nicknamed "The Smurf Penis") which was the topic of conversation in his first date with Robin, and then frightened Robin by saying that he fell in love with him. In the same vein, he dressed as "hanging chad" every year for Halloween, in the hope of meeting "The Slutty Pumpkin," a woman dressed as jack-o'-lantern (complete with strategically placed holes) that she had met in Halloween party. (When she finally met the woman, however, she discovered that they did not have any romantic chemistry at all.)

Ted describes himself as "half-Jewish". He was seen cheering for the Cleveland Indians when they played the New York Yankees in a baseball game. He and Marshall were randomly assigned as first-year roommates at Wesleyan, and became good friends on a long, ill-fated journey.

In some episodes, Ted claims to have been "vomit-free since '93", though that is not true. Ted knew French and sign language, and had an annoying habit of correcting everything people said around him. As a child, he has a detective club called "The Mosby Boys", which consists of him and his sister, Heather. Ted also spoke and read Spanish, albeit awkwardly. Pablo Neruda is one of his favorite writers. He also enjoys high culture like classical literature and philosophy, and tends to become boring and pretentious when discussing it.

Relationship with other characters

Robin Scherbatsky

In the pilot episode, Ted meets Robin at MacLaren, the bar where the main character hangs out. They go on a date, which Ted ruins by impulsively tells him that he is in love with her. They decide to be friends, but they have lingering feelings with each other. Finally, Ted won Robin, and they started dating. They broke up at the end of the second season after realizing that they wanted different things. They remain friends, and briefly become roommates in the fourth and seventh seasons.

Ted never really forgot about Robin. He was particularly in conflict when he and Barney got engaged; she wants him to be happy, but can not dispel the feeling that he and Robin are meant to be together. On Robin's wedding day, she panics and tries to run away with him, but Ted knows it will not work and tells him that she no longer feels that way about her. That night, Ted met Tracy McConnell, and they fell in love, eventually getting married. The series ends in 2030, with Tracy having died six years earlier. Ted's children encouraged him to date Robin, and he brought the Blue French Horn he stole for him on their first date to his apartment. However, at the end of an official alternative event, it was revealed that Tracy was alive, and had a successful marriage life with Ted.

Tracy Mosby

Ted meets Tracy in 2013 after the marriage of Barney and Robin, being the last of the gang to meet him (Barney met him six months earlier, Lily met him on the train to the wedding, Marshall met him on the way to Farhampton Inn, and Robin meets him some the moment before he got married.) Tracy and Ted met while Ted waited for the train to the airport to take him to Chicago; However, he immediately fell in love with her, and changed her mind about moving. The next night, Ted called Tracy and the two began dating. Nearly two years later, they got engaged and started planning big weddings. By 2015, they postpone marriage because she is pregnant with their daughter, Penny; she is pregnant again in 2017 with their son, Luke. They end up married in 2020 and live together until Tracy dies in 2024. At the end of the alternative, Tracy is still alive when Ted tells their children how they met.

Marshall Eriksen

Marshall was Ted's best friend. Their relationship is a core element in the series, with them rarely disagreeing and sharing common interests in many ways, especially Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. They were roommates on campus, and became good friends after an ill-fated journey. By the time Ted told his children, he and Marshall had been friends for 34 years. Marshall always had confidence in Ted's relationship with Robin, too, pushing to pursue it. He even bet with Lily, Ted and Robin will end up together.

Barney Stinson

Ted and Barney met at MacLaren in 2001 and he told Ted that he would "teach her a way of life". They spend time together to meet girls, to "wing" each other. Barney insisted that he was Ted's best friend, despite the fact that Ted repeatedly said that Marshall filled that role in his life. They briefly come out after Barney slept with Robin, but reconciled when Barney risked his life to be there for Ted after the last one had a car accident. Ted even tries to teach Barney how to be a good boyfriend for Robin, serve as his best man at his marriage and Robin, and convince Robin not to run out of him on their wedding day. Ted is also there for the birth of Barney's daughter in 2020.

Lily Aldrin

Lily befriended Ted since they went to Wesleyan together. For several years they lived with Marshall in the same apartment. He was very protective of Ted, and even went so far as to destroy him with a woman he did not believe was true for him - including Robin.

Victoria

Victoria is Ted's ex-girlfriend. They met at the wedding and fell in love. After two months of dating, he moved to Germany and they tried to have a long-distance relationship. They broke up after Ted kissed Robin. Six years later, they meet again, and Victoria finally leaves a man on the altar for Ted. In the end, however, they break up again after Victoria insists that Ted ends his friendship with Robin. Victoria is described by Ashley Williams.

Stella Zinman

Stella is Ted's former fiancé. E. They meet when Stella, a dermatologist, removes the lower back tattoo that Ted got when drunk, and Ted was instantly smitten. She turned down the advance at first, but she won it after taking him on a two-minute date, complete with dinner, movies and good-night kisses. They get engaged after Ted has a near-death experience and realizes that he loves her. On their wedding day, however, Stella leaves Ted on the altar for her ex-boyfriend, Tony. Stella is described by Sarah Chalke.

Zoey Pierson

Zoey is another ex-boyfriend of Ted. He has strong feelings for her, even though he's married and leads a campaign to preserve the building that Ted's company, NAM, plans to knock down to make the skyscrapers that Ted always wanted to design. She leaves her husband, The Captain, for her, and she briefly considers leaving her dream to contribute to building the skyline of New York City so they can be together. In the end, however, Ted picked a building on it, and they broke up. Zoey is described by Jennifer Morrison.

Luke and Penny Mosby

Luke and Penny are two Ted's children with Tracy. Penny was born in 2015, and Luke in 2017. In 2030, six years after Tracy's death, he told the story of how he met his mother. At the end of the season, they convinced Ted to pursue Robin. Luke is portrayed by David Henrie, and Penny by Lyndsey Fonseca.

It is theorized that the origin of Luke and Penny's name can be observed in the How I Met Your Mother series. Luke's theorized to be inspired by the original Star Wars protagonist, Luke Skywalker. Not only is Star Wars trilogy appearing several times throughout the series, but Ted and Tracy are big fans. Ted also referred to his son as Luke, years before meeting Tracy. It is known that Penny's name comes from a particular episode in season 2, episode 15 titled "Lucky Penny". This episode is so great to tell us how HIMYM's recurring theme "let the universe do that" really does affect the characters in the show. Though things did not go the way Ted wanted in that episode, he ended up not having to leave NYC. Without that example taking a dime, Ted may never have met Tracy, so it is believed to be significant for influence on her daughter's name.

Bow character

For a while in the first season, Ted dated a baker named Victoria, whom he met at a friend's wedding. He received a culinary scholarship in Germany, encouraging long-distance relationships, which did not last long, largely because of his constant feelings towards Robin. Ted annoys Robin by implying that Victoria broke up with him when he did not; Ted and Robin flirted before the two women realized they had been deceived. Ted and Robin finally reconciled as friends, and, in "Come On", Ted made one last attempt to win it, hiring a blue room orchestra room to play in his apartment while he appealed. She finally fell in love with him some time later when Ted seemed to call a storm with a complicated rain dance. They date during the second season, but break up in "Something Blue" after realizing that they want things different from life.

At St. Patrick's Day party he and Barney attended, his future wife was present, though he (thankfully) did not meet him that night. After he returned to the party room in the morning after that, he took a yellow umbrella that could be seen blown in the promo season. Also, he became the second main character to actually own a car (Toyota Camry Hybrid blue) after getting a raise in his job. At the end of the episode, Ted decides to get rid of the car to help Marshall with his money issue.

At the start of the third season, Ted who got drunk got a tattoo on his lower back (his "bum stamp"). He went to see Dr. Stella Zinman to get rid of her, and dating her in "The Platinum Rule." In "Ten Sessions," she falls in love with him, and after the tattoo is removed, Ted takes him on a two-minute date. They started dating, and at the end of "Miracle", Ted proposed to her. He said yes at the start of the fourth season. On "Shelter Island", Ted invites Stella's ex-girlfriend, Tony, to his wedding; Stella and Tony rekindle their relationship, and Stella leaves Ted who is crushed on the altar.

Ted's life continued to fall down during the fourth season. After being left at the altar, Ted had trouble returning to the dating world, and his work became a source of trouble too. After being hired to design the project for Goliath National Bank, he was fired after a few unsuccessful weeks. He tried to improve on this by starting his own company, Mosbius Designs, but most were unsuccessful. In the fourth season of "The Leap", Ted finally accepted his job as an architectural professor offered to him by Tony as a peace offering, even though the movie Tony

He reached the lowest point in his personal life in Season 7 and confessed in Robin that he began to believe he would never find "The One". It reaches the high point when he tells Robin that he still loves him after he broke up with his girlfriend, Kevin. However, Robin does not return his feelings and move out. Finally, Ted gave the apartment back to Marshall and Lily and moved into the apartment of his boyfriend, Quinn. In the episode "Trilogy Time" it was revealed that by 2015, Ted's daughter will be born.

After a few months, Ted decides to patch things up a lot with Robin, and he helps her realize that Victoria is the only woman who almost even becomes her rightful self. When Ted called Victoria, he appeared in a wedding dress and said he was ready to run away with him. Initially, she tries to bring her back to her marriage, but after realizing how much she likes her, she changes her mind and they go to the sunset. After dating for several weeks, Victoria says she will only marry Ted on condition that she ends her friendship with Robin. Ted told Victoria that although he no longer loves Robin, he is like a family and an irreplaceable part of his life. Victoria wished she was lucky, and broke up with her.

After Victoria, in Season 8 episode "P.S. I Love You", Ted met Jeanette Peterson, her last girlfriend before meeting The Mother. Ted and Jeanette met on the subway after Ted saw them reading the same book. Jeanette is obsessed with her: she knows that she has been following her for a year and a half (since her appearance in Time Magazine), bought the same book as her 10 minutes after her (the book they read on the subway) and start a fire outside his classroom to meet him. while his friends cringe, Ted finds this romantic and ignores the warning signs. In "Weekend at Barney's", Jeanette broke up with Ted; he took almost everything he said and did as proof that he was having an affair. Barney tries to set Ted with another woman to distract himself from Jeanette, even though Jeanette finds her at the bar and they come back together. However, this did not last long: Jeanette found Barney's handbook in Ted's apartment and destroyed the place, locked Ted and threw his stuff out the window onto the street below. By this time, Ted decided he was done with a single life and was ready to settle.

Though happy for them, Ted was annoyed when Robin and Barney got engaged. In "The Time Travelers", Ted's future fantasizes about finding The Mother weeks before they actually meet, so he can tell how desperate he is to meet her. She supports the engagement of her friends, but finally realizes her lingering feelings for Robin will make it difficult to be around them once they are married, and so plan to move to Chicago the day after they get married.

The series' last season revolves around the weekend of Barney and Robin's wedding, where Ted wrestles with his feelings for Robin. She tried hard to find the locket Robin had buried in Central Park the year before, which she wanted as a "sign of the universe" that she had to marry Barney. Moments before the wedding, Robin has cold feet and tells him that he should marry her instead of Barney. Ted swallows his true feelings and says that he no longer loves her that way. He then stood up when Robin married Barney, and said goodbye to his friends. This season also contains a number of flashforward scenes depicting Ted's life with Mother, including their first date, the day she proposes and the birth of their second child.

In the last episode of the series, "Last Forever", it was revealed that Ted finally met his wife, whose name proved to be Tracy McConnell, at a train station when he was leaving for Chicago. They immediately started, and dated for a year before getting engaged. They were not married for five more years, during which time they had two children, Penny and Luke. Tracy died in 2024.

After the conclusion of his story, his children told him that it barely contained the mention of their mother and focused more on Robin, who divorced Barney after a brief marriage. While Ted denied it, the children said he clearly sought their approval to date Robin - whom they gave. In the last scene of the series, Ted stands outside Robin's window, holding the French blue horn from their first date.

Ted's Future

Future Ted, voiced by Bob Saget, tells each episode to his children in 2030, framed as the story of how he met their mother. The mother finally revealed in the final season 8 "Something New," played by Cristin Milioti.

In the third season premiere, "Wait for It", Ted's children already know the "short version" of the story of how he met their mother, and it was an incident involving his yellow umbrella. Some guidance given is that Ted's future wife is a student studying economics, because she was in class on Ted's first day as a professor, where she initially went to the wrong room and began teaching Architecture 101 for what, in fact, was Economy 305 It was also mentioned that he was in the same nightclub with Ted and Barney on St. Patrick, 2008. On the first season episode of "Belly Full of Turkey", Future Ted joked to her children that the stripper she met named Tracey is the mother (her first name was Tracy at the end of the story). The future of Ted tells his children that he meets their mother "on the wedding day" which is later revealed to be the wedding day of Barney and Robin, where Ted is the Best Man. In the inaugural season season 8, Ted was reading a book while waiting at the train station "Farhampton" after the marriage of Barney and Robin when "mom" (indicated by Ted's future voiceover and a signature yellow umbrella appearance) is shown arriving at the same station via taxis, although whether they met at the time was not confirmed because the episode faded to credit with the two not being aware of each other. In Season 8 episode titled "Band or DJ?" Ted's future reveals in a flashback that "mom" plays bass guitar in a wedding band performed at weddings Barney and Robin. Although the flashback shows that Ted did see the mother at the wedding, it was implied that they did not actually meet officially at the wedding. Ted and his wife were shown as a flashfoward standing outside a The Wedding Bride III cinema commercial during the "No Pressure" episode, although the face of his wife was not shown or his identity was revealed.

Throughout the series, Future Ted always uses past tense when referring to The Mother. This, among other clues, made many viewers suspicious that his mother had died in 2030, which was confirmed at the end of the story.
