Histori

The Guild was written and created by Felicia Day, a playful gamer, among acting roles in American television and film shows. After two years of playing the game, Day decided to make something productive from her experience and write this series as a sitcom television pilot. The series is purposely made generic to avoid copyright issues and to attract a wider audience of role-playing massively multiplayer online (MMORPG) fans, but Hari is basing his experience with World of Warcraft addiction.

Day also hopes to show that the stereotypical guy who lives in the basement of his parents is not the only type of gamer. He decided to produce an online series with Jane Selle Morgan and Kim Evey. Days already know Sandeep Parikh and Jeff Lewis of the Empty Stage Comedy Theater, a Los Angeles-based comedy theater, and their roles are written for them. The rest of the cast is filled through auditions.

After filming the first three episodes in two and a half days, they ran out of money. After the donation is invited via PayPal, the fourth and fifth episodes are almost completely funded by donations.

Format

Each episode opens with Codex (Felicia Day) which rearranges the previous event in the story in the form of a video blog. Usually, it gives the audience a recap of previous episodes and shares the Codex feelings on the subject. The video blog appears to be outside the timeline, as it is usually different from the one in the episode itself, although some blogs happen on the timeline with other characters or situations that interfere with the Codex. Each season is divided into 12 episodes (with the exception of season 1, which is divided into 10 episodes).

Plot

Season 1 (2007-2008)

Cyd Sherman struggles to limit his online time, where he plays as his Codex alter ego, a member of Knights of Good . After the guild realizes that Zaboo has been offline for 39 hours, he shows up at the door of the Codex. Zaboo misunderstood the chat in the Codex as a chat, and became a stalker who lived in the same apartment.

On the inside of the game, problems also arise when Bladezz is banned from the game because it uses a macro (to throw spam blow a few thousand times) inside the trade house. Codex uses this as an excuse to ask the guild to help him with his Zaboo issue. The Guild (except Bladezz) reluctantly meets first - for the first time - at Cheesybeards, a local restaurant, only to find out that Vork has transferred all valuables in their game to Bladezz's account as part of building a strategy team. If they decide to kick Bladezz, they will lose everything.

Things got worse when Bladezz started slandering the Knights of Good by displaying inappropriate videos of member characters, and the Codex was no closer to bringing Zaboo home. Later, Zaboo's home came to him in the form of his arrogant mother. Zaboo confesses that his mother controls every aspect of his life other than the Internet, which he starts reading. He sees this as the only way out.

Codex comes up with a plan to lower Bladezz, using Zaboo stalking skills. Zaboo knows about Bladezz's modeling career and blackmailed it to give gold and equipment back to the Guild. The Guild then fights against Zaboo's mother, and Bladezz redeems himself by landing a final blow. Codex soon realizes that he got the booty of Zaboo's mother - Zaboo.

Season 2 (2008-2009)

Zaboo's mother takes revenge for losing Zaboo by removing the Codex. Codex and Zaboo move to a new apartment, where Codex meets new love interest: Wade (Fernando Chien), a stunter. Codex tries to make Zaboo out by telling him that he needs to level up before they can get together. He arranges for him to stay with Vork, who will take in-game gold as a lease, something that Zaboo is very clever: farming. The Codex focuses on trying to get Wade interested in him.

The Guild finds the ball in a precious game that Clara and Tink are fighting over. Just as Vork let him up for an offer, Clara's children pulled her computer off the Internet and, after reconnecting, Clara knew Tink won it. Clara vows revenge on Vork for giving it to Tink and spent the whole weekend betraying Vork by corpses camped in alternative accounts and finding her own ball.

Bladezz believes Tink is romantically attracted to her and starts maximizing her mother's credit card to buy her things, when in fact, Tink uses them to get what she wants. Vork is distracted by the lack of Zaboo logic and his antics in trying to 'build' the Codex. Codex found that the stunt cast has a "stupid high hot girlfriend," Riley (Michele Boyd).

Game announces that online games will be closed for maintenance for four hours, where Vork plans a strategy lecture for Zaboo and Bladezz, while Codex is planning a quiet party with Clara and Tink. Bladezz forces Vork to leave college for a poker game (offline), hoping to make the most of what he spends on Tink. Clara advertises a Codex party and it becomes a crowded kegger.

Among Clara's random invitations, Wade and Riley came to the party. After learning that Riley is Wade's and Wade's roommate is single, Tink and Clara try to associate the Codex with him. Zaboo, learning this, persuaded Vork and Bladezz to go to the Codex to try to stop him. Vork finds out that Clara has attacked him, and begins to question his leadership qualities. Bladezz confronts Tink about their relationship; after knowing that he has been used, Bladezz steals Tink laptop and deletes his character. Meanwhile, Zaboo runs on Wade and Codex kissing and challenging Wade to fight. Wade is a much better fighter, but Zaboo's seriousness about the Codex leads to Wade handing his interest to him. Codex yells at Zaboo that he does not like her, and he leaves upset. Then the Codex sees Clara drunk kissing Wade, and decides to chase Zaboo to apologize, but gets hurt when he sees him making out with Riley.

To end Ax's abuse of Bladezz, Codex and Zaboo track Anarchist Valkyrie at his job, where he plays games at company time. After they take some of their possessions and threaten to expose them, Valkyrie tells them where and when the next Axis of Anarchy meeting will take place. Vork returns after regaining his confidence to lead and, with the Codex, collect back Guilds to challenge Axis in Internet cafes where they plan to conduct group raids. The battle begins, but both sides lose members quickly. Some of the Knights die in the game when their real life problems come true: Clara's husband shows up, angry because he's playing; Riley destroys Zaboo's computer for not meeting his request. Clara tells her husband that they will have another child and he forgets about their argument and redeems himself in the eyes of the guild by helping Clara kill Anarchist Kwan in the game. Zaboo broke with Riley, who later dated Venom.

Finally, only the Codex is left to face the leader of Tink and Axis Fawkes (Wil Wheaton). After the Codex makes Bladezz apologize to Tink, Tink decides that the Axis member is even bigger than he can stand and let the Codex kill him in the game. Codex, in a hallucinatory conversation with his game character, exerts courage to defeat Fawkes. The knight welcomes Tink back to the guild, and Bladezz makes tentative tentative with the Axis members who seduce her mother. Fawkes invites the Codex for drinks; initially he refused but, in a winding ending, waking up in bed with him the next morning.

Season 4 (2010)

An unexpected and unintentional night with Fawkes (Wil Wheaton) causes the Codex to emphasize on what the guild thinks of her and persuades her to cover for her in a fake relationship. But after spending more time together, the Codex realizes that he is the "total tool sac" and re-evaluates the criteria for relationships with men. His computer was broken and he was forced to get a job at Cheesybeards to pay for repairs but did not know how to meet his boss's expectations, Ollie (Frank Ashmore).

Zaboo tries to be a good friend of Codex during his fake relationship with Fawkes rather than trying to win his love. He dives into this new pursuit with its mediocre intensity. When the truth of the relationship is revealed, he realizes that his feelings towards the Codex have changed and he wants to be his friend.

The income competition for the new guild hall gave rise to a real business for Tink and Clara that strengthen and suppress their friendship.

Vork enlists Zaboo's mother, Avinashi (Viji Nathan), for his "brilliant economic mind" in pursuit of his vision for the union hall and he sets up a stock market and a lending company that bankrupts players. However, his choking tendency made him angry that he "made a really unprofitable giant movement" and proposed marriage in an attempt to destroy it. For his horror he accepted.

Codex and Bladezz filmed Cheesybeards ads online but the results were so horrible that it brought a series of joke calls to the company. Ollie was furious and fired the Codex. Gilda helps Codex get his job back by organizing celebrations in Cheesybeards that attract a large population of gamers. Bladezz tries to do a magic trick involving fire, which eventually burns restaurants (costing Codex and Bladezz for their work).

Zaboo begged the Codex to intercede in the upcoming marriage between his mother and Vork. And when Zaboo disclosed that he had used the money from auctioning off the romantic paintings Codex and Fawkes he had been assigned to buy him a new computer he was touched by the movement and decided to stop the marriage.

Avinashi and Vork will swear their oaths at each other, at a virtual wedding ceremony in a guild-like new guild guild hall, when all the guild members object. Codex manages to convince Zaboo's mother that it is wrong to marry "someone [he] can not stand to be close to someone who does not want to be near [him]". Zaboo helps by suggesting that she visit every few weeks when she is lonely, causing the Codex to realize that she has all the qualities on her new litmus test, and considering the relationship with her.

This season concludes with an official gimemaster who rammed the ceremony to end Vork's "Trogothian Stock Market" scheme. Codex assures GM, Kevinator (Simon Helberg), to change the design of the guild hall to the "fairy bitchin palace" that Tink and Clara want. Kevinator was impressed to meet Bladezz, who has become an internet celebrity and invited the whole guild to a gaming convention.

Season 5 (2011)

The Knights of Good travel to MegaGameORama-Con, a three-day game convention. Bladezz believes that he was invited by Kevinator as a special guest, but his name is not on the invite list. With all the nearby hotels booked, Rachel, a staff member of the convention, managed to secure a room for them. However, it was not offered for free, and Bladezz assured the rest of the gang that he would clarify the situation to Kevinator. Meanwhile, Codex was more interested in approaching Zaboo, but he became absorbed in attending events and panels.

On the first day of the service, Bladezz and Vork discover that Kevinator has been fired from The Game before the service and Bladezz is one of his joke invitations. To offset the cost of the hotel, the two started a photo booth for Cheeseybeard pirates. Tink tried to sell the shirts she and Clara made but were forced to find a booth so as not to get caught by the convention staff for selling without permission. When she and Clara went to the steampunk-themed booth, Clara was more interested than selling t-shirts. Zaboo is denied entry to the panel because the seat is full, causing him to form a saving seat network.

Codex tried a new demo at The Game booth, but unknowingly insulted the creator, Floyd Petrovski (Ted Michaels). He gets busier when Zaboo refuses all his progress and is constantly being followed by convention participants in furry costumes. When he follows Floyd to apologize, he discovers that he plans to sell The Game to the mainstream market. Codex becomes concerned about the future of the game, which is the only thing in his life that holds his friendship together.

Tink, who continues to change his costume to hide his identity, reveals to the Codex at a party he hid from his adoptive family, who attended the convention, fearing that they would find the switch majors from pre-med to fashion design. Codex arranged a dinner with his family to make peace with Tink's wishes. Meanwhile, Clara tried to join the steampunk group and trained as their fourth member to help them win the costume contest, but the group members finally turned it down. Zaboo has become very busy with his space-saving network so he quickly becomes power-hungry. He was stopped by Clara, who brought back his old personality, ending his involvement with a cost-efficient network.

Bladezz and Vork blades are a success, but Vork rejects all the celebrities who want to spend time with Bladezz. Her attention, however, changed toward Madeline (Erin Gray), an actress who plays her favorite character, Charity, on the show Time Rings . Both were invited to the party that night, but Bladezz realized that all the celebrities were living a normal life, finding them boring. However, she rejected Rachel and her friends for celebrities and publicly embarrassed them. Vork, on the other hand, finally alludes to Madeline after he criticizes his decision to leave his show.

The next day, Bladezz has lost all the support of his celebrities and fans, so he can not continue the photo booth of the Cheeseybeard hijacker. Zaboo helps Clara build a steampunk themed air balloon to help her win a costume contest. Codex and Tink found that Codex Stalkers were Fawkes, who wanted to join their guild after the Axis of Anarchy broke up, but the Codex rejected it. The girls then eavesdrop on Floyd's conversation and finds him planning to reveal his decision on the costume contest that night. Both convince the rest of Guild members to help them save The Game from "freemium". The Guild was able to stop the change with much success: Clara won a costume contest, Bladezz was able to win back his fans, and Vork reconciled with Madeline. Since all of them left the convention the next morning, Floyd had decided to give Codex a job.

Season 6 (2012-2013)

Codex started his new job working for Floyd Petrovski at headquarters for "The Game", only to discover that he was an unwise tyrant who immediately changed all other employees against him. Meanwhile, Tink discovers that the man who was manipulated for services and gifts has slandered her on the local website, losing all her connections. Bladezz was kicked out of his home by Bruiser and spent time in Clara, convincing his long-suffering husband that he was devoted to his children by uploading his parenting videos to the Internet, though he was more interested in monetizing videos. Vork, dating Madeline, was disappointed when Zaboo unveiled his protesting naked photographs, while Zaboo suffered the separation anxiety from an offline Guild member, seeking refuge from his ideal "lover" collage.

The Codex was pressured by colleagues to convince Floyd to unleash a subsea expansion package they had planned for months but was forced to perform menial tasks to calm him down. When the Guild visits his workplace, Tink steals the Codex key to the test server and starts a regular relationship with Donovan (Corey Craig), where they agree that he will do the work for him if he spends time with him. Unbeknownst to him, he begins to fall in love with him real. Zaboo, who enters the server disguised as an IT technician, becomes smitten with Sabina (Justine Ezarik), NPC Game and the spitting image of his dream girl.

Vork, who has been through a debate with Madeline about his personal goals, confronts Floyd about his unanswered complaints about The Game. This keeps his character permanently banned, and he retaliates by protesting and getting support from other players. Meanwhile, Bladezz was forced to spend time with Wiggly while Clara continued to make a video. When Clara became famous on the Internet, other parents asked her advice, one of which was Bladezz's mother. Clara encourages her to keep dating Bruiser, causing Bladezz to convince Wiggly to quit his job.

Note patches of underwater expansion leaked onto the Internet and wildly evoked protests. Codex did not manage to find the culprit but assured Floyd to release the expansion pack. Donovan revealed to Tink that he was the one who caused the leak to encourage Floyd to release the expansion pack, and Tink told him that the Codex and Vork were in the same guild. He uses this information against Floyd to blame the leak on the Codex and get him fired. Vork's protests culminated in the riots, but his actions have renewed Madeleine's faith in her and both reconciliations.

The Guild has over 69 million views on YouTube in September 2011. The series has won several awards since its launch, including six Streamy Awards and four IAWTV Awards, and in February 2009, Rolling Stone named it one of the "Net Best Series Events".
